Good Morning All,

It's not surprising that I am already in love with my little green chicken, but I guess I was hoping that he would be in love with me as well. I know that he is still trying to adjust to a new home, and that I need to give him time to settle in.

He/She is approx. 10 or 11 weeks old. He knows nothing about step up. She said that he was eating both seed and pellets, however he wont touch the pellets. He has NEVER offered to bite, he just tastes my skin. He seems to really like his cage, and will flutter back to it if he feels uncomfortable with something.

I whistle to him and he whistles back most of the time. Does everyone go through this @ the beginning? I guess I just feel like when I read everyone's posts when they get a new baby that the fid and their owner are inseperable from the word go.

My batteries in my camera are still dead from vacation so I will charge them today and post pictures of him. While on vacation I let me family vote on his name, and it was hands down that his name is KIWI.

I also meant to add that he would rather be on the cage than with me. 2 or 3 times he has snuggled under my chin and let me pet him and give him scritches. Maybe I am expecting to much since I just got him on Wednesday and he has traveled over 500 miles in a car with us from vacation on Thursday.

You're on the right track about giving him time to adjust. Everything you mentioned sounds perfectly normal and usual for a little one who has only been home for three days.

Just let him sit in his cage and pull yourself a chair very close. Sit in the chair and talk, sing, recite nursery rhymes or whatever so he can get used to your voice and your presence. He'll be head over heels before you know it.

After a week or so, I would start reducing the amount of seed and increase the pellets until it's all pellets. Just make sure he's eating enough, even if it has to be seeds. You can try Andie's conversion method later if needed. http://www.quakerparrots.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=1366
