Saw my new little one today and got to hold her/him, well I am going to say Ricki that is what the name will be, or is, Ricki is so much greener then Kermi, is that normal? Kermi was 3 months old when I got her and that was the first I had seen her, this baby is 6 weeks old, and the feathers are really a bright green, what is the youngest that they should leave, Ricki is being hand feed and I don't want the breeder to talk me into taking him/her too soon..hatchday was May 16th...

Buddy was 10 weeks old when he came home...
Good Luck ..

Spirit is 8 weeks old and occasionally wanting a feeding, my call as a breeder is they get formula for as long as they want and once they stop eating it on their own, two weeks more to be sure. If they don't want or holler for any during that time they are ready to go. Even then sometimes after going to their new home they will regress. Each bird is different so can't give you a certain age.

Well I am glad she live close so if I do have a problem I can take Ricki back to her, she said she won't let Ricki go until she is, oops, or he is fully weaned 10 to 12 weeks...

That is excellent and she sounds like a very good breeder.

Lentil was about two months, I think. My vet told me that was too young (after the fact), but he never quaked or acted like he needed feeding. It probably depends on the breeder and the bird and it sounds like your breeder knows what they're doing if they're willing to take the bird back for a bit.

Oatis (my quaker) is 7weeks and i got him at 6weeks 6days. I did request that i got him early though to rear him myself. he is on two formula feeds a day (morning and nightime) and soaked seed during the day,and hes doing really well! I think you have to be 100% ready before you take him/her home and ur breeder sounds like a really good breeder! which means getting a really good bird as his old mommy knew exactly wot to do and did everything right to make him the best pet for you biggrin.gif

Thanks everyone I feel very good about this, with Kermi, I was a little scared, didn't know the breeder as she came from a pet store, the pet store owner did hand feed her, but I know this new little baby will know me before I bring her home..( Little Ricki)
