huh.gif Perhaps I shouldnt have posted here, but maybe this will help future new owners like me tith their quakers behaviors.

Today, around 1:10AM I was in the computer, and my 3 QP are located right underneath my keyboard. I placed them inside my desk, for several reasons... but well thats off-topic. The thing is that it is kind of late and I last fed them around 10:30PM , it has been 3 hours, usually the time spawn for their food... they are already somewhat hungry and keep squaking, I was reading and found somewhere that the last time to feed them was before 11 so they could empty their crops.

=- One of the fellas started squaking to me and jumped up in the cage, looking like a front flip or something... I wasnt directly looking at him, I was studying and reading on the desk and all I saw was a shadow from the side of my eye of the bird up in the air and back down moving its wings.

wacko.gif .... im not drunk or sleepy, they are really hyper.... I just put in today a millet spray as adviced here in this forum... did the seeds give them extra boost of energy?

btw, they are not just picking some seeds off,,... they are devouring that thing over time... should I feed them this late at night?

Edit// well, i will feed them this time, please let me know if im doing something wrong.. lol, I feel bad and also scared.... dont want them to be trying to get out of the cage...

You might start increasing the amount of formula you give them so that you know their crops are plenty full and it might be they were as active as they were because the light was on and you were making noise, try putting them somewhere a little darker and quieter and see what happens. And just keep putting millet in there and letting them eat it, you might also get a small dish of small pelleted food and offer that to them too, they need to be introduced to that type of thing so they aren't afraid of it. You might even cut up some sprays of millet and put in and under the pellets so they have to pick through the pellets to the millet.

They are also going to start trying their wings out soon, so just let them flap but make sure there isn't anything that they can injure themselves on.

How many times a day are you feeding them now and how much?

I just fed them and everyone is now happy... I'am currently feeding them about 12-13 cc's every 3-3.6 hours... sometimes 4 hours if I see their crops with something left over, and my mix is heavy.. not just liquid... I've been increasing the amount of formula over liquid with the days as they keep asking for food within less time than the 3 hours. Sometimes I have to recharge the syringe with the smallest baby... he eats like me.. I guess they were just hungry and trying to get my attention. Now they are cudling and sleeping... lol, I got worried over nothing. I will do as u say... food dish & also that stepping perch you mentioned some time ago...

they were also trying to climb up the millet... dry.gif

Here is a pic from the time they were hyper:

and one after I fed them:

what a difference ah?

now, as for the poop sniping... is there any way to train them? they keep shooting out heavy poop loads... my bedroom floor is carpet... 1 poop doesnt hurt... but continuosly repeating it will damage or give stinky impressions of my room...

Keep the mix about the consistancy of pancake batter, instead of mixing it thicker less water ratio, just increase the amount you give them, they need the moisture. Increase the amount to like 15cc and see how they do

As for the pooping, put a newspaper under their cage and where they are shooting it too so that it catches it and it doesn't mess the floor. Babies will scoot over to the edge of the nest and poop as far out as they can to keep from soiling the nest, so that's why they squirt it outside the cage.

You can even start introducing them to people food such as fruit cut up in small pieces and have it in a separate dish, as well as thawed frozen vegatables, I buy mixed veggies that have corn and peas and carrots and green beans etc. let them thaw or slightly warm them and off it to them but take it out after 2 hours so it doesn't spoil, same with the fruit, right now while they are really curious is the time to start letting them see things and try things, You might also start offering them little foot toys as well, Little balls like you can see in NCVon's video of spirt and things like that, It teaches them not to be afraid of new things and they are more apt to play and keep themselves amused.

Ohhhhhhhhhhh they are soooooooooo cute.........Maybe a seed guard (those material ones you can buy) wrapped around the bottom of the cage will catch it before it hits the floor..
I think putting small pellets in a dish is a good idea that way they will get to reralise they are food ..Roudybush makes a crumble , my birds eat that and love it , it would be small enough for the babies...

Good luck , love seeing the piccys...
