just wondering about this. birds are reputed to be as intelligent as up to a 5 year old child (depending on the bird). how much of that, do you suppose, is actual comprehension? i understand that they can use words in appropriate context, but so far mine really haven't done that yet. well except for the time goof bumped his head on a toy and dropped the f bomb. he learned that before we got him...

goofy was making some really funny sounds and i was laughing silently (i wanted to see if he would continue), when louie laughed out loud. did he understand that goofy was being silly, making silly sounds and louie thought it was funny? or did louie coincedentally laugh at the right time?

I think that birds do have a sense of humor to a varying degree. I know that my Blue and gold macaw certainly does because she will intentionally do things and not necessarily the same thing and then she'll chuckle. My Caique is quite a clown and its like he senses when I'm in a bad mood or sad mood and will deliberately do something off the wall that will make me laugh

The Too's have this habit of doing something that they know they aren't supposed to do like scream and then Cowboy will turn and put her head back over her shoulder and in a very sweet voice say Hi Cowboy pretty bird like that's gonna keep her out of trouble.

I think birds are far more intelligent than we give them credit for, and we just haven't learned the key to tapping into it and using it.

We know that they are problem solvers or they wouldn't learn to be houdini's and escape their cages. I think that if we were to start with a young newly weaned baby bird and really tune in to that bird and use its natural instincts and start teaching it just like you would a newborn human baby that we would be amazed at what these creatures are capable of.

I know that they have feelings and can show emotion and they have good days and they have their bad days just like we do. So I think we just haven't really learned to tap into it yet.

If you think about it, they like to play peek-a-boo because they think it's funny. I mean, it's not the world's most hilarious creation in the art of humor but it's so silly, it's funny.

I, too, think that birds have a sense of humor. I don't know what has been tickiling Polly's 'funny feather' the last couple of days, though. She will be on her play gym, looking out the window, and suddenly start to laugh.....actually more like a chuckle. She is absolutly amused about something!

I have been thinking about this lately because my quaker has recently started ;laughing a lot. She onlt does it when we are genuinely laughing. Also the other day she a bit a friend and as I was scolding her bad behaviour she started to laugh really loud , which in turn made us laugh and she just kept going.

She sure seems to know how to get herself out of trouble. One day I caught her chewing on something and told her off for being naughty and she immediately came over and started giving me kisses, as if to apologise. Needless to say she instantly melted my heart and I couldn't help but forgive her.
