I just wanted to say to whoever suggested the popcorn whiffle ball idea; absolutely fantastic!! My guys immediately started digging into them. That doesn't usually happen around here either!

By the way - using the cat toy balls with the bells inside - once you take the bell out and zap the whole thing in the microwave, the plastic tends to get a little soft and get all distorted. Use a better kind of whiffle ball! They were the only things I had at the time, and I wanted to see if it would work. Not so much...

Did this ever get started as a separate thread somewhere that I didn't see?

i read about it last year not too long after i joined. no one wanted to try it then lol.

i use the golf sized wiffle balls for goofy - he can tear thru one a day if he is so inclined. louie is scared of them. wub.gif

when i attempted it, i had problems keeping the kernals in the ball tho. how did you manage to keep them in??

as far as the cat toy with the bell in it, i bought some for louie right away when we brought him home. not the ball ones, the ones that look more like a foot toy (rounded on both ends, vertical pieces of plastic in between both ends with a bell inside). took him all of 10 minutes (once he decided to play with it) to break a piece off. we reserve those type of toys for the cat now, who doesn't play with em either.

I did it a couple of days ago and wrapped a wet paper towel around the ball and then put the kernals in. About 2 minutes in the microwave and Wallace had a fun new toy.

That sounds like a good idea. I hadnt heard of that one. I just may try that sometime.

The only way I could manage keeping the kernels in was to wrap the ball with dry paper towel, leaving a little hole to stick the kernels in later. Once I put them all in, I got it wet and then zapped it for about 2 min in the microwave.

My guess is that the golf ball size would work the best, though the holes are pretty small.

Yeah, I don't give them the cat toys with the bells in them anymore. Once I realized that Elwood was trying to bend the bell to get the ringer out, I decided that it probably wasn't the best idea. Now, I just get the bell out myself and give them the plastic. I'm not going to buy any more though.

I forgot to mention; the original idea is toward the end of the coffee filters post. It might be the one that is directly below this one on the board. We really need a separate posting with pictures since it's such a good idea!

I can NOT get this to work, I bought my wiffle balls yesterday, washed them in the dish washer to get all the cooties off of them, wrapped one in a couple of wet paper towels, added about 5 popcorn kernels in the ball, nuked it for nearly THREE minutes and NOTHING happened! UGH what am I doing wrong? Our microwave will pop a whole bag of popcorn in 3 minutes so it should of popped 5 measely kernels too! HELP my daughters are looking at me like "Mom cant you make this work" lol

What kind of kernals are you using? Could that be the problem? Mine only took about 2 minutes to pop.

My darn popcorn was stale lol I poured out about half the bag, got to the part where air was less likely to reach and lo and behold I have 2 new bird toys! My green cheek Buddy was scared at first so I just left him alone w/ it and w/in about 10 minutes he was munching away, I put one in w/ Paulie our Alexandrine and I havent seen her mess w/ it yet but I am hoping she will soon! I want to get some golf ball wiffles and try to make one for the budgie!
