is 18*18to small if my QP is out of the cagekost of the time and is just in there to eat and sleep

18 x 18 is bare minimum for a quaker, with typically no more than 5/8" bar spacing. as big as you can spare space for and budget will allow is usually suggested, but if your bird will be out of its cage most of its waking hours, that size should be fine. just remember to not fill it so full of toys and fun stuff that he can't fully spread his wings.

I will tell you in my opinion, the 18x18 is too small.

Someone had convinced me that it was what I needed and
I bought it.

Then when I came home and set it up and put my conure
up to it, I realized that it would only work if NO TOYS WERE IN IT.

I decided immediately that it was not big enough.

So I returned the cage and ordered this one.

I received it and it is awesome! My conure took to it immediately
so I let him have it and I ordered ANOTHER ONE just this week.
Expecting it anyday for our new quaker coming home soon.

Knowing my conure which is same size as a quaker and knowing
how he loves his toys and room to flap, the 18x18 is just too small
in my opinion. My conure stays on top of his cage (the old one which
was 22x17 and now the new one which is 24 x 22 all the time)
but when he does go in and plays it was too small.

If you can afford to go bigger, I would recommend it.

I respectfully disagree..a Sun conure is not the same size as a quaker. It is some what bigger bodied and has a larger wing span therefore a 18 x 18 would be too small for a sun conure.

As was said, 18 x 18 is bare minimum for a quaker. When I first started with quakers I had 18 x 18 cages, They did just fine, granted it is bare minimum but if your bird isn't going to be in it much mainly just for sleeping and eating it would be fine. However if you can afford something bigger that would be better especially for those days when he might have to stay in all day. As was stated in the first reply, provided the bar spacing is correct 5/8" is recommended but no bigger than 3/4" the bigger the better, any bird needs to have enough room to be able to totally spread their wings inside the cage without hitting anything.

I would not buy a 18x18 cage for either a conure or a quaker unless money or room were a problem ...IMO if you can afford bigger do so... smile.gif

P.S ..

I thought you were looking at getting this one..

Its a Good choice IMO......
Sunny and Friend
Thanks.

Yes I also thought you were looking at that one
which is the same one I bought (actually bought 2 of them
identical and waiting on the second one for my quaker)

IMO, I just think the bigger you can go the better
and because I have the cage you were first looking at,
I felt it was a good choice. It is also 5/8 between the bars
from what I measured even though it states 3/4.
