Hello everyone. I've just joined your community in order to seek help from the membership in finding homes for two "Monk parakeets" recently taken in by the wildlife rehabilitation center that I volunteer for. It is called Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation:
flintcreekwildlife.org
It's main facility is in Barrington, IL, northwest of Chicago, but they have a location in downtown Chicago and another in Itasca, IL as well.
One of the Monks is probably a recent fledgling. I can personally attest to its desire to love and be loved - it just wants to be held and cuddled. We don't know if it became separated from its wild flock or if it had already been a pet and was intentionally or unintentially released outdoors. The other Monk was transferred to the center in error by a municipal Animal Control office. It's extensively plucked, so I suspect it was surrendered by a frustrated owner.
Do any of you know of a place or person who does Monk rescue or adoption? The incredibly busy and understaffed wildlife rehab' center isn't the right place for a troubled self-mutilating former pet parrot or a young and potentially very loving companion parrot. Their purpose is the care of sick, injured or orphaned wildlife with the ultimate objective of returning them to the wild. These two Monks or Quakers - if that's the correct name for companion parrots of this species - don't belong there.
Any help or advise will be greatly appreciated. You can contact me via reply to this post, IM or Email:

Alternatively you may contact Dawn Keller, Director of Flint Creek Wildlife, directly:

Thank you all.

Hi, Are you only looking for a bird rescue place them or are you open to placing them in a permanent home?
I live about 15 minutes outside of Barrington I might be able to take one if they are still available. You can contact me at KALAHARA@aol.com Otherwise if you just want them to go to a rescue I do know of a great Bird rescue in Illinois at http://www.rescuethebirds.org

There is also a rescue in Creston, IL. Ollie's Parrot Perch / A Place to Call Home.
You may have better luck adopting them out closer to Chicago, however, because of the larger population.

I am new to this forum and joined to begin my quest towards finding that "special" quaker to join my family and just sent a very long e mail to you as I really think this is fate stepping in. Please feel free to ask ANY questions you may have as I am experienced with Quakers and would just love to give these two a very loving forever home.
