wub.gif Hi Everyone,

For those of you not in the know ... I brought home a bouncing bundle of pinkish orangey feathers and fluff this Sunday! His name is Kona and he is a VERY BIG M2! Kona is assumed to be between 8-9 years old, and we know for sure that I am at least his 4th owner. Aside from that, not much information is known.

My dear friend Rowena was kind enough to lend us a lovely cage for him, and Brooke was nice enough to lend her time and efforts to go and pick him up to meet me! I hope both of you know just how much Kona and I appreciate everything you have done!!! wink.gif

Kona has been living alone for the past two years. This past owner (who had no prior large bird experience), acquired him and immediately decided to breed him. She put him in with three females, and after he killed one, they removed the other two. This poor guy has been alone, plucking, and screaming for a long time.

He is plucked under his wings and down his back, and his poor little legs are naked. We are taking it slow, though he seems to be settling in quite well. He said "Hello" last night, and is eating everything in his sight.

I'll keep you all posted on his progress ... and feel free to email or post hints if you have any to share!

Here is my big boy ... wub.gif

I love Moluccan Cockatoo's. They have to be one of the prettiest birds out there. It's a shame he has lived such a rough life. Hopefully he has found his forever home and all will be much better for him!! Good luck and keep us updated on his progress.

Oh Joni, What a beauty he is, and he couldn't be in a better place, i know you will work your magic on him

AWWWWWW..well, it looks like he isnt completley bare and the skin isnt mutilated so hopefully there is great potential that he will regain more feathering. Pretty boy.

Gorgeous bird~! I have to say your a very brave lady to tackle a moluccan cockatoo. I'm not afraid to get bit. But I know their bites can be the worse. There is a moluccan in a rescue where I got my goffin. And the original owners had the bird for years and one day the moluccan laid until his caretakers face and she had to get stitches. So please please be care. Some of the worse bites can come from a cockatoos, because the way their beak is. CG bites hurts, I can't imagine what a moluccan feels like!

Good luck and I know you have a big heart and I know you'll do all you can for the big guy!

Hi Joni! Thats one gorgeous parrot!! What a cool name too lol. Are the M2s the hardest of all the TOOs to handle? Ive gotten the impression along the line they can be difficult.
Am asking to educate myself! Joni your the bees knees! laugh.gif x

Hi Janet!!

In my humble opinion and experience, I find the Sulfer Crested Toos the most difficult to handle and the most unpredictable.

What a gorgeous guy you have there! Its funny you say that about the SC as we took in a rescue back in Oct..a Greater Sulphur Crested - shipped to us and plucked bald on his chest/back/legs and about 65 gr underweight..Vit A deficiency etc..have you had him in for a vet check yet? I don't know the history of him so I apologize if I make you re type it smile.gif

If you need any tips/tricks I can pass on what I have learned in the last 5 years or so lol along with our Goffins we have our hands full at times with these two - remember its the honeymoon period with him - they are PERFECT little angels for the first week to 2 weeks(some a bit longer)and than start letting their guard down a bit and show you a bit of their "true" personality lol smile.gif

Wow What a pretty bird. I wish I could have one. The two I have are more than enough most times LOl. I'm not home for long hours during the day or i'm sure I would try to find a way to fit one in.

Your very lucky and a very good person for taking in and loving that incredible creature. Hum Hum Hum It's so good to hear that there are people willing to help out in a case that this.

Best of luck to you both.

Ain't my Godbirdie cute and listen to me glowing. Hehe smile.gif Joni, he's gonna do great with you! smile.gif He's so sweet and what a big ole' cuttie pie. I know how you value your digits, and ALREADY KNOW HOW MUCH AND BAD A BITE CAN BE, geesh.. I couldn't resist pettin' that sweeties beak on the way to meet you. He's just precious!!!

Of course I know she has her digits in row~! And Joni knows how to read the parrots body language! I was not trying to be neglected at all. I was just trying to be helpful and if I came off like I was being neglected then I'm sorry Joni. I think what you do for the birds is a wonderful thing and I think your amazing person. I hope you understand what I was trying to say~! wink.gif

Congrats Joni!! I hope he settles in with you as well as Angel has with us ( as we speak he is on Debs lap getting his new feathers preened and purring like a kitten LOL ) I love the other Fids but he sure has a personality that just makes you want to give him attention.
