Full Version: Yet Another Newbie
Quaker Parrots Forum > Welcome! > Introductions

Hello all, my name is Charlie and I'm the abrupt owner of a Quaker. He was captured on a patio where he had been hanging out begging for food and a guy I knew at work captured and brought him and brought him in. The head of the I.T. department knew I was in the process of acquiring an Orange-Wing Amazon and asked me if I was interested in a quickie adoption. I'm a sucker, so I quickly agreed. biggrin.gif

Anyways, just getting up to speed on Quakers and came across this forum, thought I'd check it out.

Here's a link to a YouTube vid of us that I made a couple of days ago:

So, looking forward to at least lurking about to get educated on my new companion!

Welcome Charlie. It won't be long before your 'quickie' adoption wraps himself around your heart! wub.gif You have come to the best site on the web for help with Quakers. Reading thru some past posts can answer many questions you may have, but we are always more than happy to go on and on....and on..........and ON about our birds! biggrin.gif I'm sure you'll do fine if you remember the number one rule with ANY bird .... PATIENCE!! smile.gif

Welcome!

Welcome Charlie! Quakers are so cute!

Welcome Charlie. Do you have a name yet. Has anyone been looking for a lost Quaker in your area?

Comet has clipped wings so he looks like he's definately someones pet. Have you tried asking around the area you found him incase someone has lost a quaker? He's very beautiful and if you can't find the owner I'm sure you'll both be very happy together

Oh yes, I know all about the patience factor. Really, just about ANY new pet requires different variations of patience, so that's not an issue (yet! wink.gif )

Welcome to the forum! Charlie is definitely a cute little guy! biggrin.gif I'd also recommend looking for the owners as he definitely looks like he was a former pet and somebody out there is probably really sad they lost him! wink.gif There are a few sites that show lost/found birds, I know 911 Parrot Alert is one of them. You should also contact some vets and pet stores in the area to let them know in case someone goes there looking for him. But if you are unable to locate them I'm sure he will be very happy with you! smile.gif

Good luck and Welcome! smile.gif

Well, the first thing I need to find out is exactly where he came from. He was captured on a person's balcony where he'd been looking for handouts, then brought to work where I then got "volunteered" to take him. So the first order of business is to find out just where that balcony is at.

Since I'll be taking him to the vet this week to make sure that he doesn't have any health issues (like chlamydia or psittacosis), I'm hoping that he's been microchipped. And I need to make sure that he's healthy before I bring home my Amazon. Comet (the Quaker) is a freebie cutie, but I need to make sure that he doesn't have anything that's going to make my $1200 Meteor (the Amazon) sick! I'm REALLY not sure what to do if he has something! sad.gif

Well, when I went to the local Avian pet store (Chippy The Pirate) to get a cage & toys & munchies for him, I had him go ahead and clip his wings & trim his nails. I figured ONE Adventure To Freedom was enough for him! At least if I ever do locate the original owner, he'll be prepped for a proper home life.
