I found this parrot toy on Ebay that is a mirror with buttons on that says phrases. Is it true that my Quaker will bond with the mirror cause it thinks it's another bird instead of bonding to me?

Some ppl sy their parrots like the toys more than humans, but my babies have mirrors available and they still love ME! Just depends on the bird and how much time you spend with them.

I partially agree with Jo...that it depends on the bird and how much time you spend with it. In my case the bird took to the mirror even though I spent lots of time with it and therefore lost the mirror and got a less shiny bell. I also have to say that I think it depends on the size of the mirror too. If it can get a full view of a life size parrot chances are more likely... But I have some little mirror toys in with one of my quakers and she does fine with me other than being a little cage aggressive... Which I think she'd be whether there was a mirror or not...

One other quaker I had that had a mirror would regurgitate for the birdie in the mirror also...So the mirrors came out.

When Willie was younger, he used to give the mirror kisses and hold his foot in his beak to check out his toes but now that he's older, he finds mirrors rather boring.

Clyde has a three-way mirror, a miniature version of what you'd get on a vanity or in a store dressing room, and his first couple of days with us, he seemed to get comfort from having it there and even fell asleep leaning against it. Then he took to sitting on top of it and pooing on it. LOL Now he mostly ignores it. He likes to peer into the bathroom mirror from my shoulder and he leans forward and says "pretty bird" to the image, but honestly, I think he knows it's an image and not a real bird. Maybe because he can see me in it, too, and recognizes me? I dunno. But he certainly doesn't seem to bond with his own mirror in any way or even seem very interested in it anymore.

I think it somewhat depends on the bird but it seems the majority of the time they bond to the mirror wink.gif ... whenever our budgies had mirrors they bonded (became agressive, regurgitated for it, etc.) so the mirrors had to come out. I've never given one to Casey so I can't say for sure what would happen but just seeing what it could do I wouldn't give one her...

I guess if the bird is left for long periods (if you work) and is in the cage a lot with the mirror it could cause problems but I think if your with your bird a lot probably not , I believe most birds like to be out of the cage with their flock (us humans ) and if they get that stimulation and fredom I doubt they would bnd with a mirror..

Here is a cute picture of when I brought Buddy home he saw him self in the mirror and thought it was another Q.P (probably his clutch mates) he was begging and quaking it was so cute..
