I can't believe this has happened, but I think we have found/rescued a new family member. Let me explain.

My Mother and I were driving to the drugstore, and on the way there we see something run into the ditch on the side of the road. Well, we stopped to get a better look at it. I rolled down my window and out comes a meowing gray colored kitten with gold eyes. He came out like he wanted to get in the car. Well, I got out and picked him up, and he was very lovable, but scraggly looking, poor thing. My Mom said to put him down to see if he might go back where he came from, I did. And he kept looking up at me and meowing, and I almost thought he would jump in the car. I gathered him up again, because it didn't feel right to leave him out there. We called some friends of ours because they know of some rescues that might've taken him, and took him there. They got a good look at him and told us that his little foot pads had been burnt, likely from walking on hot asphalt. He also had some scratches on his face and ears like he'd been in a scrap or two. He has patches of fur that looked like they were missing at one time, but seem to be growing back. He could be anywhere from 11-12 weeks or 3 months old.

Just the way it happened, and the way he seems to be so affectionate with me, I couldn't not try to keep him. My Mom said that this cat has eyes that remind her of my Dad's. And my Dad always knew that I loved the gray colored cats. I don't know, but it just seems like this was meant to be somehow.
We need to get him to the vet sometime this week, but for now he's staying on our front porch in a cardboard box with blankets and he has food and water also. Eventually, I'd like to have him be an indoor/outdoor cat. He hasn't got a name yet either.

So far he doesn't seem to like dogs at all, and he has quite the growl when he sees one close to him. He did also hiss and spit at my friend's dog. My dog will do fine with him though, since she mainly barks, and then lays down in frustration because she can't get close without getting kitty-attacked. They just need time I guess. Hopefully that will ease their tensions.

When the time comes when he can come inside, I want to be extra careful with my bird as well. I wouldn't mind and advice in that area to avoid trouble.

Thanx.

The sooner you let the kitten in the better and the sooner you can teach him while he's young and impressionable that the bird is OFF limits. A squirt bottle works well with teaching them to leave things alone.

Your story gave me goose bumps because I was thinking about your dad before you commented about it, thinking that he probably had a hand in it. Things have ways of happening like that you know.

Congrats on the Kitten, As soon as you can, I'd get the little thing spayed or neutered as well. My vet says the sooner the better these days.

I agree that this is more than just a coincidence ... (I don't believe in coincidence anyhow!)

I believe God has a way of comforting us and in very unusual ways sometimes! Very Cool!

It sure sounds to me like this was meant to be. If you have a single thought in your mind that your Dad sent this kitty to you, never never give it up. if he did, he knew you needed it for comfort. Maybe "Comfort" might be a good name for kitty.

I'm glad you came along for this kitty. seems like you needed each other. wub.gif

Thanx for the suggestion Weeza, but we found a name that suits him well. Ashton, and Ash for short. Here are some pics I took of him today. I'm hoping we can get him to the vet tomorrow.

He did well at the vet. No serious issues, and he got his first shot and a de-wormer. He got a good ear cleaning too, I couldn't believe how much gunk was in those little ears. He's due back for another set of shots in around three weeks. He will be fixed sometime within the next few months also. smile.gif

Here's some of the latest pics of Ashton. He looks ALOT better than before.

There was a mistake made by the first vet I went to, and now we know not to go there. This poor cat was loaded with ringworm, so after finally taking him to our regular vet, we are treating him with an everyday oral medication for 30 days, and chlorihexiderm baths every third day. He is surprisingly un-violent when we bath him. He's just pitiful, he just clambers out of the tub and crawls into my lap to hide his little face. No scratching our biting at all.
He is doing very well though, his fur is filling back out, and he's been staying in at night. He and our dog have been playing too. It's so much fun to watch. smile.gif I'm glad I have them all. On my bad days, each one, Riko, Bella and Ashton all find ways to make me laugh again. You never realize how much you need that.

With the ringworm, we've been cleaning indoors, and the outdoor porch, and we are all being treated, since we all ended up getting it. Dumb vet. dry.gif I was concerned though, can birds get ringworm? The cat has no real contact with him, and for the most part I keep my room closed when the cat's loose. I've been washing my hands and all to make sure I'm clean when I touch him.

Sorry I'm late coming to this thread. Ashton is adorable!!!!

I don't believe parrots can get ringworm, but you may want to consider calling your avian vet and asking them. To be safe, keep making sure you're disinfecting your hands before handling your bird.
