Midori
my Quaker says a few words, he is still young, about 3 months now, yet i cannot figure out how to get him to say his words on cue.
I was at the pet store today, and they have a blue and yellow macaw named trouble. real mean bird, bit the crap out of my finger today, yet when you ask her, say preety bird, she says it.

My birdy doesnt really respond to seed or food as treats, never shows to much interest in food as treats, and im not sure how to establish a cue for the bird to repeat something. My other option i am going to introduce to Midori is clicker training, but does anyone have any suggestions or personal stories to share? My midori is very very well behaved, and travels outside everywhere with me, so i spend alot of time with him.

Much appreciated!
Casey's Mom
Casey talks a lot and we just talk to Casey like she were a child, so by having conversions with her she learns how to use the words in context. smile.gif For exampes: When I ask for a kiss, she'll lean in and make kissing noises wub.gif If I ask her if she wants to play peekaboo she'll start by saying 'Where's Casey?' If I ask her if she can whistle she'll do the wolf whistle, If I say I'm going out and I'll be right back, she'll wave and yell 'Bye!'. So simple things like that... they pick up words that they find exciting or interesting so if you just talk to them like they were a kid they figure out how to use them properly. They aren't like a puppet, you can't just get them to repeat things after you say them, they have to learn the word(s) and eventually they just learn how to use them in context when you talk with them. biggrin.gif

What are you using as treats etc.? It may be that he just doesn't like that particular treat. Casey loves her food and she'll do anything for a pumpkin seed or an almond sliver. I can't really comment on the clicker training... I bought a clicker and started to read up about it but I haven't actually started it with Casey yet. If your Quaker doesn't respond that well to food, you can try using a lot of praise instead as some respond better to that. smile.gif

When she travels outside with you is she in a harness? unsure.gif

Good luck, others should have some more ideas! smile.gif

I agree.. just talk lots to your baby and try and ask her questions and then say the desired repsonse you'd like her to learn.....

example.. we taught kiwi the peekabo game and then we started asking wanna play peekabo? (we knew that he knew what the game was now) and it only took him a day to put asking play peekabo in context with actually playing the game and he asks that now...

or we'll ask him wanna sing a song? and then we'll sing.. to sing a differnt song we say wanna sing another song and then sing etc.....

when he want to play the tickle game we play he goes tickletickle...

I think your baby will just naturally pick things up as you interact and have lil mini conversations..

Caseys mom sums it up great.. talk to your fid like you were talking to a lil child and they should pick words up..
