Hello I am a new member just recently lost a cockatiel I had for 6 years. And just purchased a Quaker. I got it from a bird rescue its suppose to be about 8 months old. It is missing its toes on the one foot, it gets around just fine. I have never owned a Quaker before. I have been letting its cage door open sometimes it will fly at me and bite. And when it does it holds on just doesn't bite and let go. It will take food from my hand I am wondering how I can break it from biting. I have had it for 6 weeks now. Thanks for any info you all might have.

Hi and welcome to the flock!! I am in St. Louis, too!! Drop me a PM with your email address and I will send you an invitation to our bird enthusiasts group gathering on August 3!
I am happy to help however I can. You will find a ton of great information on here if you take the time to read through the past threads. Quakers are wonderfully smart, friendly, and outgoing creatures. They certainly have a sense of humor, too!
Which rescue did you adopt your Q through?
I look forward to getting to know you better!
Hugs,
Joni

Welcome to the Forum and congratulations on your new quaker. I am sorry about your loss.
I would clip your quakers wings. It has a way of "humbling" them. They have to rely on you to get where they need to go.
Like everyone else said, this forum is chalk full of information.

gOOD Gosh.

Sounds like you have your hands full with this little one. I'm not at all sure of how to handle that but I wanted to say welcome to the forum and you were great to rescue a quarker. Dont react when he bites, no sound no nothing. It makes them do it more. I know easier said than done by a long shoot.

You may want to get his wings clipped. Is he getting any baths? That has helped
I'm sorry for your loss of your cockatiel. That must be really hard.
Best of luck with your new guy. What's his name?
Can you post pictures?
