Hi there,

I need some advice.

In about 4 weeks there were will a crew of men in my house replacing the main and upper room windows/doors. They said it would take about 1 1/2 weeks to complete.

I'm sure Kea is going to freak out, just with all the men walking around and of course the noise. I want to minimize her stress during this time, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about it. If they do the downstairs all at once then I could just move her cage upstairs until it is complete, or I could keep her in the basement (which she is not really familiar with), but even this simple move upstairs may be stressful. Also, it sounds as though they may actually have access to the house while my husband and I are out at work.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

Stacy

I don't know your bird's personality, but Clyde came to live with us the first day we started renovating the bathroom, and we tore that sucker out to the studs and started over, with his cage just a few feet away in the dining room -- it's a small house, there was no other option -- and we had strangers coming and going and noise and confusion for four weeks. He took it all completely in stride. He'd been on his own outside for a while -- we don't know how long -- and was just so glad to be in a house with people to take care of him that he wouldn't have minded a brass band marching through here, probably, so your bird may react completely differently, but it sure didn't bother Clyde. He'd squawk when somebody used a saw or walked past his cage, but not like he really meant it. I actually think he was just squawking along with the noise, the way he squawks along with the dogs when they're barking at something. "Oh, we're going to make noise now? Well, I want to do my share!" If you put your baby out of harm's way and give her lots of attention when you're home, she'll be all right, I think. You could certainly direct the contractors to do the downstairs all at once and then the upstairs so you can know where to stash her while they're stomping around. And order them sternly to stay away from her. We have a friend who used to have a Quaker and she walked in here and before my husband could stop her (I wasn't home), she walked over to the cage, opened the door and stuck her hand in, and Clyde had never seen her before in his life. She got pecked for it, too. laugh.gif

I had a massive renovation done 2 sumnmers ago..new roof new siding new windows and more...
My birds did just fine. I kept them out of the workmans way so that they would stay safe so they basically did alot of room moving about.
So everything really will be ok with your bird. Just move the bird to safe areas and keep moving him as the workman shift rooms. Its only temporary so your bird will do just fine.

Yep have had major renovations done too just moved the fids from room to room to keep away from any dust noise etc...This is the birds room I had to keep them in the family room with me we have a window to see them through the kitchen the windows were changed in one day and when they painted I moved the boys cage (ONE CAGE ONLY)into the family room for a couple of nights They didn`t like it much and were hard to get to go to sleep with us watching telly in the room they wanted to be out with us ,but we all survived..lol..

then you can see the wood windows we had replaced with the new ones....
