hello everyone i have the most adorable 9 week old shih tzu, i have bought her everybone except rawhide and ear available but she likes to bite me hand and face when playing and it hurts i say no and tap her on the nose but she doesn't get it my husband says i need to hit her nose hard, but it doesnt feel right, how do i get her to stop trying to bite, by the way shes only trying to play, but would rather play with my body than any toy i've gotten, any advice would be greatly appreciated, hitting isn't my style

When she bites, stop playing with her and walk away. Tell her no biting...and then walk away, Everytime she bites do the same thing.

Those little teeth are sharp and hurt like the dickens.

I know a few dog handlers that say when a puppy is being naughty do what the mother would do. nip it back. So they pinch it hard enough to make it yelp.

Something else you might try, its to make a yelping sound yourself when she gets too rough. Usually a puppy that's playing with a sibling will stop if they are play fighting when the other puppy yelps. But consistancy is the word.

You've got to do something to equate consequince for their action. You also need to establish that you are the alpha and the way to do that is roll her onto her back and hold her there till she submits.

Ummmm my best advice about children... LOL Lock them in a closet till their 25 and only let them out to go potty and eat. LOL Or just don't have any... smile.gif Of course I'm just kidding... Andie turned out pretty well...or at least I think so ...most days wink.gifbiggrin.gif

I think I turned out just fine! biggrin.gif Mom laid it out there pretty well. I had the same problem with Mugan (my puppy) and the yelping myself seemed to work really well with him. Also establish "NO" and be consitant with what it means. When you tell your puppy no...you need to Stop also. Mom also practices the Alpha exercise quite a bit with her dogs (I need to work on that a bit more myself).
