Awhile ago, I made a perch for Rufus and it didn't go over to well, both with my parents and with Rufus. Rufus was PETRIFIED of it, so I took it apart and tried to recycle the pieces, with zero luck.

So, my father and I decided to make a 3D design of a perch, so it wouldn't be over the top and wouldn't look scary to the Rufus.

This is what we came up with (Red balls are 90 degree angled fittings and the yellow are T fittings):

Now, we have deviated from this design, but only slightly... By adding a triangle like top perch. In the end, this is what it looks like, however it still isn't finished.

What we did was cut the pieces first, and than fit them together after everything was done being cut. We then went out and bought Fiberglass to use as a base. We cut that and cut out holes for it.
After that, I washed the pipes with rubbing alcohol, sanded them and than washed them with regular soap and water. Now, all thats left to do is drill hoels for the two dishes (Which can be seen in the following pictures, on top of the fiberglass) and find a way to attach the ladders.

Here are some pictures:

In the end, it measures 49 inches from the floor, to the top perch. 26 inches from the floor to the fiberglass, 29 inches long and 21 inches deep. I used 1/2" inch PVC pipe, two bowls that came with a playgym Rufus hates (One I bought) and two ladders that came with his Cage.

In the end, the only problem I seem to have is getting the ladders to stay... Anyone have any advice on that? I was thinking of tying them, but Rufus would likely pick off whatever I use.

Any feedback would be great!

WOW! That looks fantastic!! You guys did a fabulous job with that.

I'm thinking zip ties to keep the ladders on so you can move them if you need to.

Way to Go!

I think it looks great!

Can you drill holes in the top of the bar and then put the hook of the ladder in it? The use either vet wrap or rope to hold it in place.

Looks great ...why not just drill 2 little holes to hook the ladders into the PVC piping....

OOps I didn`t read you exact same idea Denise.. smile.gif

My boys stand is just a bought one we put a shelf on to put their food dishes (dinner dishes not pellets they are in the dish on the stand water in the other) they fly to and from that and us and the swings I have hung as well as down to their cages in their room ..Our dog Zeus also likes to sleep under the stand and watch for dropped goodies to eat ..lol..

Beautiful birds Majj!
I would love to do that, but i needed something that comes apart easily.
I actually thought about a shelf like that, but... parents, haha.

And the flying bit scares me, many other birds around here and all i need is for the door to be opened and to see Rufus fly on out and join the other Quaker Parrots not 5 minutes down by the Whitestone Bridge, lol.

I was thinking of drilling holes, but I worried what if Rufus starts picking in it.. Hopefully, this thing will keep her engaged (After I add a few toys) so, I guess it wouldn't be a problem... I'll post more pictures once I have it at 100%! Right now, it's like at 80% haha, 20% more to go! Damned lucky little green feather ball lol.

WOW!!!!!

What are you going to use to cover the PVC for grip?
Bones6
I sanded it with 60 grit sandpaper.

It's very rough, and i've already tried it out with Rufus, Rufus LOVES it lol. I was gonna use twine or vet tape, but the last perch I made I did that too, and it was on the list of things Rufus hated about it (Rufus would stay on the ladders attached to it instead of on the twine.).

If I see anything wrong with it later on, i'll likely take a dremal tool to it and make it rougher, as I noticed a perch or two with that design online.
