Full Version: Having Supper Together

I read somewhere that you should eat with your bird because eating is a flock activity and it will make him happy if you do that, so for the last two nights I've sat myself and my supper down next to his cage and we've had supper together. He comes down from his highest perch (his favorite) and companionably munches his food while I eat mine. I gave him some of what I was having last night in a bowl and he completely ignored it, but he was very interested in my Spanish rice and meatballs tonight, so I scooped a little into his food dish and he chowed. laugh.gif He even ate some off the fork while I was poking it through his food dish door. I gave him mostly rice, just a teeny bit of hamburger. He liked the rice very, very much. Maybe he didn't eat what I gave him last night because I put it in a separate bowl. I've tried giving him fruit and veggies and such and he usually tastes it to be polite but doesn't really eat anything if I don't hold it. He must've been a hand-fed baby. Apparently, I'm going to have to sit down with him and eat some, too, if I want him to try new things.

I eat with my little Puffy too...but be careful about manners! I used to just give her little bits of what I was eating through the cage, then graduated to having her on my shoulder while eating...then i'd hold the plate so we could both use it and she would happily eat off it...then the other day I was eating pasta and she wasn't getting enough (she's wearing a collar at the moment so I have to hold the food for her to eat) so she can down my arm, sat on the edge of the bowl and then got to eager and stepped in!!!! Thankfully it wasn't very hot or saucy so no harm done but MANNERS PLEASE!

She LOVES rice, and pasta and bread but will eat anything...she's a little vacuum cleaner smile.gif

When we have supper Joey gets what we eat. He goes in his room to eat. When we are almost done I take him and his dish out and then he finishes with us. Just in time for a taste for dessert. wub.gif
Casey's Mom
Casey's cage is about 4 feet away from our dining room table so she just eats her food on top of her cage while we eat... if it's a fid appropriate meal she'll eat whatever we're having but if it's not she gets one of her prepared meals that I make ahead and store in the freezer. biggrin.gif

Be careful about him eating off your fork though. wink.gif
Bubba&Me
Bubba eats with us too, I have to make sure he is up when Madison is eating lunch though because he will fly right to her plate!

tongue.gif When we first got Eli he used to sit ON the table with us while we ate .... until one day he hopped/flew over to my son's plate and landed right in the middle of his spaghetti! laugh.gif laugh.gif (you should have seen his 17 yr old face!)
Needless to say, we now let him sit on his "kitchen" perch while we eat instead of the table top!
