I have been meaning to post this forever! About 2 months ago I updated and 'grew' Griffin's tree. His original tree was top heavy due to the small base and wide top so I used an extra recycling bin for the base this time. Its not as pretty as before but its nearly impossible to tip. It has over 70 pounds on cement in teh base to keep it still. I have to use a dolly I made to move it around. Anyway, to answer any questions the tree is made out of bradford pear branches out of my front yard. All branches were scrubbed with a 1 part bleach 3 part water mixture then hosed off. This was repeated 3 times on every branch individually. Once a week I scrub the branches with a stiff brush and warm water, clean the blanket covering the side of the couch from poo, and clean the Formica around the base. Please pardon the poo on the tree I haven't been in there to clean yet this week!

As shown in the above picture he has food and water bowls in his tree allowing him to pretty much live on it all day. While he has food and water in his cage for in the morning when he wakes up but after that he spends all day in his tree then at night he flies the 10 feet to his cage and puts himself to bed.

Here is Griffin hanging out on his tree. The ring you see is a polly wrapped hoola hoop. He LOVES polly rope. His favorite thing to do is preen strands of polly rope which I buy from the dollar store down the street. When it gets to fraid I cut it off and replace it. You can also see the 1 store bought toy he actually plays with in the bottom left corner of the picture. I am going to get him some adding machine paper soon because he LOVES to kill paper.

Starting to move to the side of the tree you can see more of his toys and things that he occasionally messes with but rarely. In the top left you can see some polly rope he has started to preen. It has a long way to go before it is ready to be cut.

Here is the side of his tree. You can see it goes a long way back. His second favorite toy is visible in this picture. I filled a wiffle ball with straws which he pulls out and 'kills' before throwing them on the floor. You can see the hoola hoop alittle better in this picture as well. Also off picture he has another branch lower on the tree so when I am sitting on the couch he can come stand next to me. The branch he is currently on is one of his favorite hang out spots.

This is a close up of his toys and his favorite 'toy box'. Every morning I put straws, wood chunks, and popsical sticks in his stainless steel bucket. He spends hours pulling things out of the bucket and throwing them all over the floor. He LOVES it. Farther back in the tree you can see a piece of polly rope that is ready to be cut (I left it there to show what it looks like when he is done with a piece of rope). You can also see the rope perch he has in the tree. I am planning on putting in another one or two sections of it and if i can find some 3/4 sisal rope I will thread a wire through it and use that too.

And finally in this picture you can see the ladder leading up to his tree and the base of his tree. The ladder was put up because he does occationally fall to the floor and since I'm sometimes not in there when he falls that allows him to climb back up. He hates the floor so he never uses it to climb down. (The wire is for my laptop and isn't normally there. All wires are kept off the floor and the room is kept child proof for in case he does get down and explore the floor!)

Hope you all enjoy the pictures and such! I'll answer any questions anyone has and try and take a better picture if you want one of an area I didn't show much of!

biggrin.gif If I had unlimited access to safe branches I might make these. The most expensive thing is the base it sits in. The cement from the local Lowe's only costs about $6 for one tree. Branches are free. Its really quite easy to make. Much easier than you'd think. After I hose the branches down I tie the bases of the branches together with a rope and set them upright in the base. Someone holds the branches while the quick dry cement is poured into the base. Then I normally wrap 2 lengths of rope around the top parts of the branches and tie them in opposite directions to a solid formation (wall, car, anything good and solid) This will keep the branches standing overnight. Then just let dry overnight and in the morning untie everything and work the branches into a formation you like and all done! Its really not that hard just takes some muscle power to get it just so but thats about it!

Gosh, you don't think Griffin's spoiled or anything, do you? laugh.gif Next time my husband says Clyde's got too many toys, I'm gonna show him these pictures.

Wow, it's like an amusement park for quakers! Griffin is a lucky fid.

Tru has one of those buckets too; I put his building materials in it and he puts half into his happy hut and tosses the other half.
