Hi I bought this Happy Hut on the internet and Put it in Pico's cage. Where do most people hang theirs in the cage? Also I have been putting a few sunflower seeds in it to lure him in it. He has gone inside to get the seeds but hasn't figured out yet that it's for sleeping in. I was wondering if anyone had any tips about how to get Pico to use it. Also how long did it take your bird to use it???He wasn't scared of it either when I put it in his cage. I placed it beside his cafe for a few days for him to get used to it before I put it inside his cage.

We dont have a house in Mickeys cage yet but I do have one in my GCC's cage his is a snuggle sack, I have it at the top of his cage but there is a perch right under it that he can climb out onto, I have noticed that he has been pulling his toys to the front of his house to chew them and he loves to get behind his house to and hide! lol

Now tell me where you got that one for Pico, its gorgeous, I love his name on it!!

All birds feel the need to be hidden from sight at night. They have a natural fear of predators. Time is all it will take. I used to hang a scarf down through the bars so it draped down on each side of a perch. Mine would get in between the sides of the scarf and pull the scarf closed around them to sleep. They hated the happy huts at first, but now they adore them. Kiwi sleeps in hers at night, but takes food to it in the daytime and eats there (her gourmet restaurant). Bo chewed a hole in each side of his for windows so he could peek out. tongue.gif Silly bird.
I can't remember how long it took mine to decide to use them, but I'm thinking maybe 10 days to 2 weeks????

Sprout merely 'cohabited' with his Happy Hut until, one day when I was putting him back in the cage I paced him inside of his Happy Hut rather than the usual perch. He's loved it ever since.
truman
Truman's happy hut is hung high in his cage, with a perch right in front to make it easy to get in. His cage is in a corner on one side, so that's the side I chose for his hut to help him feel more secure. It took a couple of days, but now he sleeps in it every night and hides in it when the killer vaccum is roaring around the house.

I can't help out since Zazu has one in his cage at the breeders, I guess he will use one here. I did want to ask...where did you get that with his name on it? It is so cute!
Peppe
Esther, I absolutely LOVE Pico's new happy hut, it is so cute with his name on it! Mollie has a yellow one and it took her about 1 week to go into it. Now she sleeps in it every night and sometimes even naps in it durning the day. I did have a cylinder type covered with the same fleece material but she did not like that one, then I got her the tent one and she loves it. I hung it up in the left hand corner with a perch a one end to help her hop in. Pico will get used to it, give him some time.

Esther, that happy hut is darling, especially the name on it. I hung a happy hut in my guy's cage, and it was 6 months before he used it, so never give up. He loves it now and I have gotten others as well and he uses them all. He likes to sleep in the ones that are hung from the very top of his cage.

Simie's hut is hanging from the top of his cage with a perch in front and a shelf behind it. Sometimes he's in the hut, sometimes on the shelf behind it. He seems happy either way. Took months for him to actually sleep in it the first time.

Thank-you for the advise. I will leave it in his cage. I think he will go in it eventually. I bought it on auction on Ebay.Tango Parrot Collection. They will put your birds name on it too. It's really cheaper than in the stores. I bought a Med. $13.00 something. You can pick what colour you want too.
