Hi, Welcome to the forum!!!
It's usually a bit slow around here on weekends but there'll be others along soon.
There's some good info on handfeeding at
http://www.quakerparrots.com/handfeeding/h...about-the-crop/A pretty good feeding schedule is:
Bird's age - - Hours of meals
3 weeks --- 7:00 - 11:00 - 3:00 - 7:00 - 11:00
4 weeks --- 7:00 - 12:30 - 5:30 - 9:00 - 10:30
5 weeks --- 7:00 - 3:00 - 10:00
6 - 7 weeks --- 7:00 - 10:00
8 weeks --- 10:00
As from 6 weeks, you may start to leave small pieces of food in its cage. Progressively, it will start to feed himself without need of help.
It should be completely independent at the age of 10 to 12 weeks. It will then be weaned.

Welcome to the forum!!! Your Jade is adorable!!!
It's a shame the breeder didn't give you more specific instructions on hand feeding.

Hopefully things will go smoothly for you in the next 6 weeks or so.

Welcome, I'm in Texas as well, North Dallas. make sure to feed your baby on time, and as much as he wants! you cant overfeed them, so don't worry. If a bird grows up without enough nutrition, they get hunger streaks in their feathers and then their feathers are weak, i believe.

Welcome to the group... I'm in Texas as well, Garland. Your birds are beautiful. Who ever you got that baby from should have given you more instructions than they did. I have no experience in hand feeding a bird, but I have read you can overfeed them. Keep reading there is a lot of information on this forum, it is great.

Hello Missy:
I am also new here at Quakerparrots.com. I saw your post on BirdBoard, and I was so impressed by your beautiful baby that I had to get a baby Quaker yesterday. (just kidding) Actually I have been looking for the right Quaker for some time now. He/she is 6 weeks old and the most adorable thing I have ever snuggled with. I am learning to hand feed him, so far it is going well. I did read tons of info on Quakers before deciding to expand my flock. They seem to have a lot of personality for a smaller size bird. Anyhow, congrats on your new flock member. I'm certain that you will take great care of him!
I don't have any great pics yet, here is one that is a bit blurry. Here is baby Rico...

I think what the other comment meant by not overfeeding them, is that they will stop eating when they are full....so as much as they would like to eat, you can give to them, because if they are asking for it then they are hungry!
When I got Peanut Butter, she was still getting 2 hand feedings a day (8 or 9 weeks)but mostly eating on her own.
I too live in TX, but about 3 hours from you, in College Station. I am from Austin originally.

I have a couple of questions about my new baby Quaker, Rico. He is 6 weeks old. He is very clumsy and has trouble gripping when he walks. His little legs slide out from underneath him when he walks across a slick floor. Is this because he is still developing? I have been having him get lots of exercise by climbing the cages and flapping his wings. He can only fly a few inches off of the ground, but he is very brave. His wings have been clipped already, which I did not know was done on Quakers as young as he is. We will be going to see the vet in 2 weeks, but I am full of questions already.
He is still eating formula twice a day (or should I say he is wearing it!?!?) He is quite a little butterball.
** I can't seem to get his picture posted.
