I want to get one for Mr. Pickles, His nails have grown a little, I have to take him to get a wing/nail/beak trim at the birdie vet. I am scared to put a rope perch in there Can they get stuck on one?
Andie's Mom
Yes its possible that they get a toe nail caught, but I haven't had it happen with any of my guys. You might also consider getting a rock perch from Birdontherocks.com to help keep their nails filed down naturally.

You should always check them to trim off any long strands that get chewed loose; and trim them off.

I have some cement type perches too. Do you leave yours in there all day while you are gone? that is what I am worried about.

My rope perches are in their cages 24/7

Casey's Mom
Casey has rope perches in her cage 24/7 as well. wink.gif As long as you watch and make sure that there aren't any loose threads etc. that he could get caught in, you should be okay. Casey doesn't usually chew them, every once in a while she'll chew them and they need to be replaced but as long as you check them everyday, he should be fine. smile.gif

There is a cool sprial bungle rope toy that came with the cage, do you think it would be ok to hand wash with water and give it to my bird?
Xanthus
Just make sure it is dry before returning to cage. Many people actually place them in the dishwasher. My quaker Goblin is no longer allowed rope perches, she just destroys them to quickly, and they are too expensive !! All my other birds have them though.

i don't know that i would knowingly use a used perch in my cage, but maybe if you scrubbed it with soap and water, then bleached it and rinsed really really well, then dried in the sun, maybe it would be ok?

louie loves his boing smile.gif i had to buy an extra to use when i wash one he always has a dry one.
