i knew i was in trouble when i pulled up to the exotic bird store where i got cricket. i still go there to buy his food and treats. i like knowing i'm helping a "mom and pop" kinda store.
today there was a big hot pink sign that said "we have BABIES!!"
i walked in and right away i see a tiny blue and gold macaw that was already sold. there was (1) dusky conure, (5) green quakers, (3) albino ringnecks and (1) hahn's macaw babies available.
i asked to hold him and now i might be in love. i did make myself walk out without making a spontaneous purchase but i need to make a decision soon (after i do some research tonight) before he's sold!
how can i NOT give this little guy a home??

I am a big fan of macaws, of the mini and larger versions. We have two macaws in my house, a Scarlet and a Red Front. Now they are obviously larger then a wee little guy like a Hahn's, but the principle is the same. I feel they have the most awesome personalities. They are so playfull, loving, comic. Now the down side is that they are as likely as any macaw to be one person birds, so if there are any regular people in your life that will be wanting and expecting to interact with it, it will take constant effort from the beginning to allow that to happen. The are going to need a cage similar to what a quaker needs, min 24x22 but something a touch bigger would be ideal. This is a bird that is every bit as challenging as a quaker, but in different ways, but equally rewarding if not more so then one.

700 to 900 is a normal price range, with some going up even a little from there.

Wow that seems high. I see them all the time in my area for 400-500 max. I myself almost bought a little red shouldered Hahn's. They are so cute and playful. I didn't buy one though because I decided I really really want a Pallid Blue Quaker. I too also have heard that they can be very one person birds but that isn't always the case.

The breeder that I got Mickey from has 2 Hahns babies and she said that fully weaned they will sell for 750.00
A friend of mine got an email today from a guy offering her 4 birds this is what he told her, 2 are big birds and the other 2 are Cockatiels that breed. She asked him what the 2 big ones are and he said he DOESNT KNOW!!! I about died, he described one of them as being a Nanday but he didnt describe the other one! He told her she can have all 4 birds and their cages for 200.00 BUT all she wants is the tiels. SO dummy me I told her to TRY and find out more info on the other two mystery birds and that IF they were something I wanted I would split the price w/ her lol and take the mystery ones MAYBE lol

it took a LOT for me to walk out. he's selling for $650. when i asked to hold him, the lady brought him to a table for me to play with him. i asked him to step up but she said "oh, he's too young to do that yet" but as soon as he walked away he stepped up for me just fine!
i came home to cricket and he gave me so many kisses and said "i love you" as soon as i picked him up. i'm SO afraid of ruining my bond with cricket if i get a new baby bird so most likely i never will...
but darn was he cute!!

If you have the time for another bird then personally I'd get one! THAT PICTURE IS SO SO CUTE!!!! I wouldn't worry too much about ruining your bond with cricket, if you still have time to spend the same amount of time with him as you did before you got your new baby. If you will have a bit less time it might still be ok, but cricket would probably feel slighted if the new bird got all the attention....

Uh Oh!!! Are you sure you are going to leave that baby there.....

Think again -- like Jessica said, you can still have two birds and maintain a good relationship with both...but that is for you to decide and I know I didn't help any....

No help here either.

Ohhh what a cutie. I was not sure about getting another bird when I got Nibbles. Everything worked out great.
I feel better knowing that when I'm not home the two are together. I was very careful to keep the same habbits with Milo that I had always had. There were some issues. But nothing to big. I really think thay like haveing each other.
Good luck

If I had all of the money in the world and my house was big enough, I would get a Caique. I don't kow what your circumstances are like but if you have the room, the time and the money then I would get it. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE!
