Full Version: Is This For Real?!

I was surfing the web this evening when I came across a website selling something called a 'beak bubble' as a taming/upkeep tool to prevent a bird from biting. Perhaps it is just me but I couldn't possibly imaging someone actually putting this on a bird and the bird actually being ok with it. Might just be me. Opinions?

wow lol. i can't imagine putting my bird's head in a ball would do anything for our trust boundaries. i guess if you have a bird who just won't tolerate anything, but still, take it to the vet and let the pros deal with it. that's my instinctual reaction to this.

on a related note, i remember a long time ago jay leno had an ad on his headlines skit. it was a cat muzzle. he thought that was the funniest thing ever. again, can't imagine doing that to my cat. we did go thru a period when he was about a year where he would stalk me and attack me, even scoping me out from across the room, ears back, totally on the hunt for me, trying to get my head when i was in the chair, etc. the vet suggested a squirt gun, of which i had none and the stores were sold out. so i looked like rambo for about a week, walking around with this huge super soaker lol.

Hmmmmmm. I guess if you worked with the bird and it trusted you to put that on it... But then why wouldn't you just work with it and train it to accept clipping and trimming.

The only benefit I could see from it would be for vet use, and most of them know how to handle aggressive birds.

When it comes to nail/wing clipping, I'm a firm believer in using a towel to restrain the bird, no matter how tame the bird. When I see those shots of people just holding the bird's foot, or wing and then clipping away, it scares me, because all it takes is one quick movement and you've cut too far.

I saw that site before, and wondered about it as well. I might get it on Tiki once, but not a second time. I also towel him and he is great with that. Haven't tried anything with our grey yet as she is a baby, and we actually have been waiting for her claws to grow. The breeder had dremelled them too short, making her very unsure and clumsy. I think they are finally where they are suppose to be, as she is all over her tree perch now, even hanging upside down at times. I was so worried that she would become a fearful bird because of it, but it has worked out.
