can you put a sun conure in the same cage as a quaker parrot if the cage is huge

Weclome to the forum! smile.gif

It's not recommended to let a Quaker share a cage with another bird, especially one of a different species. There is no guarantee that the birds will even get along in the first place, let alone get along well enough to share a cage. wink.gif There is a couple members on the forum who have been lucky enough to have a Sun and a Quaker share a cage but it's not the norm. Also you have to be careful how 'huge' the cage is, the bigger the cage the bigger the bar spacing (usually) and it's best not to have bar spacing larger than 5/8" to 3/4" for a Quaker. So overall I'd definitely recommend separate cages and VERY supervised play time IF they get along.

Others should have some more insight! smile.gif

at the risk of duplicating a response: aside from the possibility of them not getting along, there is the possibility that they will get along too well. instead of having 2 companion birds who love you, you have 2 birds who have bonded to each other and see you only as the one who cleans the cages and feeds them.

there's no reason they can't coexist in the same family, but it's typically advised to not house them together due to bonding to each other, or aggression from one toward another.

I'm sorry, but David I would not house them together.

I have a Sun and a QP and they live together in the same cage. BUT When I got our 2nd bird which was the sun we introduced them very slowly. Sight wise, moving the cages closer over time. This is a spread out process. The birds were out near each other at times but did NOT like one another and would beak each other... we did this under very watchful supervision. In time months and months we could see they became slightly more tolerant of one another. After time they got along better and better. This has taken over a year and they are very bonded now. It is very possible. But the birds need to become quite used to one another and accepting ie a process. They love us just as much and prefer us over each other. There is no problem because they were bonded to us first. Im pleased as punch that we got the results we had so hoped for. Maybe this will help you. Other people said they may hate each other true true. My birds hated each other at first too...all of this took time time time!

My boys have 2 cages and are pushed together so they can be together via the nesting box door...They love each other and us family members the same , even though they have each other because we spend all of our time with them they includ us in their flock, if you ignore them and they only have each other they will exclude you ..
Our Sun was 3years old when we got Buddy our Q.P and conures are pretty accepting of other birds Quakers are the bullies so it was good that our Q.P was a baby and came into the flock 2nd...
I don`t feel guilty when I have to go out and I know they have each other for company......It can work over time but you have to wait and see, my guys are out of their cage all day and only are locked in at bed time , they sometimes snuggle together in the jolly ball to sleep or sometimes they slept seperatly I love it that my guys have each other for company..

Alsways remember if you add a new fid to your flock you MUST always speak/great let out of the cage your first bird first so he doesn`t get jelouse and resent your new fid theye is a pecking order in the bird world and your first bird will not like to be pushed from the top perch..

I bought my green cheek conure after I got my quaker and thinking they would get along. NOT. They don't like each other at ALL. I have two cages and they are NOT together. DO NOT buy another bird for your quaker because chances are your bird WILL NOT get along with your quaker. I learned the hard way, except I LOVE BOTH of my birds equally. Maybe my quaker just a little bit more.....LOL
