There is a website that (I belive it was carrie-anne) is posted in the DIY thread. Amazing ideas and I'm pretty sure I saw some hanging stands. Good Luck. can't wait to see the finished project! biggrin.gif

Edit:
http://www.cheepparrottoysntips.com found it. give this site a try

A lot of people must have gone to this sight because it gave me an idea for a play stand for my new baby quaker and I went out looking for hula hoops. After going to four stores (one was a toy store) some of them in the pouring rain and all of them were sold out (who would of thought there would be a run on hula hoops), I used plastic electrical conduit. I am almost done and I will post a picture soon.

Here are two links... they have some pretty cool hanging gym ideas.#1 and #2

I'm planning on making a big hanging one too, I just have to figure out where to buy some things. I want to make the hanging hula hoop gym using a hula hoop and hanging it by plastic chains... then hanging the boing in the centre and off the chains. biggrin.gif (If that makes any sense, lol) I'm just trying to figure out what to wrap the hula hoop with, I don't want to use vet wrap and Casey's terrified if sisal type materals, leather would be too expensive so now I'm tring to find thin cotton! rolleyes.gif

Happy building! smile.gif Can't wait to see the finished product!

What about using a cotton gauze type wrap?...it acts like vet wrap (of course not sticky) but it would be easy to unroll around the hula hoop.

I think a hanging gym is a great idea, cuz it's easier to clean underneath .... !
I've seen some pictures where people have put a ceiling guard at the top so their birds don't start picking on the paint.

I've got a jolly ball hanging from an old wrought iron candle-type chandelier and Eli's play gym under that.
It's kinda cool, he loves to climb all the way to the top and be the "big bird!"

Just a few quick questions after looking at one of the links attached above sorry Ive never tried making toys for Boris but was curious about a few things. Dont you worry about them trying to swallow or eat the small plastic beads? Also what about the squishy ball thing with the long rubber pieces hanging off of them would it be harmful for them if they chewed the ends off and swallowed the rubber?

Where do you get the bird safe cotton rope or if you find rope how do you know if its bird safe? Sorry for the stupid questions but I have no clue what Im doing and dont want to do something to harm my handsome lil man.

At least for Skipper the plastic differant shaped/colored beads are among his favorite toys. He has never tried to eat them. He just likes to click his beak against them and spin them around with his tongue. my budgie does the same thing.

My Dodger loves them as well.He has a small plastic dish on his playstand that has them in it.He will take them out one by one...then put them back.I am trying to see if he can learn to count them but I am not quite sure how to teach him......

Here are few that we have made. We used bread trays for the bottom... which is awesome because we can put down paper to catch the mess!

whew!! those looks like a lotta fun!! how long did they take to build?? thanks for the ideas!!

k so stumbled across this:
http://cgi.ebay.ca/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewIt...sid=p2759.l1259
on ebay...

may be the easy way out instead of actually building a hanging play gym... has anyone bought one of these?

This is the gym we purchased for Dodger. He likes it but the size I got (cockatiel) is a bit small for him......

This is not a hanging gym, but I just made it two days ago and incorporated the making of the frisbee hanging gym. I plan on adding a toy to the middle of it. We melted the nylon rope some so the knots can't be untied as easy but may need to change to a different kind of rope. Right now it is not a problem because Pixie won't go on it. S/he is only about 3 months old and until a couple days ago had only played on us or in her cage so climbing on this stand is a little different. So far she will climb up and down the perches and play with the other toys. The big shredder toy I had purchased for my TAG but he is terrified of it. Pixie on the other hand loves it and is constantly shredding it, at least it should last her awhile. The colorful perch rings are made of PVC and flexible electrical conduit covered in vetwrap. She is starting to pick at the vetwrap as seen in the picture and if she tears it up too much I will have to unwrap it and try something different because I am afraid of strings that toes can get caught in. Does anyone have problems with vetwrap getting too stringy?

Sorry if the picture is blurry but I took it with my cell phone.

very creative.. thanks for the ideas!!!

Here is one my husband made..We bought a plant tray for the bottom.
Andrea5699
ooo i like that one... very quick and easy to make i bet and i like that the plastic chain doubles as an easy spot to hand oodles of toys smile.gif

I've got so many ideas now i dont know whether to make one, or buy one or both lol..

The coolest ceiling play gym I have ever seen was made of PVC. It had a center pipe coming down, with 4 different levels branching off from it. On each level, one side was longer than the other, alternating on each rung down. The ends had PVC parts with toys attached that rotated, too. The stand also had eyelets to hang additional toys from the bottom.

It was dishwasher safe, and seemed to be quite durable. Sorry I don't have a pic, but I will see if I can get one for you!
Andrea5699
ooo sounds good.... cant wait wink.gif

Andrea....I'm pretty sure there are directions in here for how to make it :)http://www.ottawaparrotclub.org/opc/uploads/File/For%20the%20Parrots/PEABV2.pdf

Do you have any boings yet? If he likes to climb, I'm sure he'd love a boing. We have one hung above Casey's cage (from the ceiling), it's one of her favourite toys! I just made a new one today since she loves to destory them. smile.gif I'm sure Kiwi would love it! biggrin.gif
