Hi Everyone!
WOW, I can't believe August is half way gone already! The past couple of weeks have been an absolute whirlwind! I swear I am meeting myself coming and going.
Let's see if I have a short version of the happenings ...
The Humane Society of MO seized 363 animals from a rural area in Polk County, MO last week. I have been working closely with them on forming a group of volunteers to assist with the 40+ birds that were supposed to come in. Well, the truck loads of animals came (with every parasite and malady known to man), and lo and behold there were no birds! It seems the woman who owned these animals either hid them, sold them, or let them loose. Further investigation is going on now, but I urge all of you to keep your eyes and ears open for any info that comes your way about a flock of 40ish birds of various types coming out of MO.
I have also been chosen to sit on the Grand Jury of the City of St. Louis as an alternate juror for the next three months. That has been very interesting, although a HUGE commitment. I have to attend jury duty next Tue, Wed and Thu, and went last Tue and Wed. After next week I will be on call. On top of that, I have to work weekends at my full time job to make up my hours because my employer has decided that though he has paid others for jury duty in the past, I don't qualify for this luxury. GAH! I am infuriated over it, but keeping my mouth shut -- for now. The one very cool thing about this is that as a Grand Juror, I get to tour the morgue, the city jails, the city work houses, the orphanage, etc.
Then we have the birdsitting for a friend who went to the Galapagos Islands. She was gone for eleven days, and I am quite happy she has returned. Driving 20 miles one way, twice a day, was getting old. She paid me, but with the price of fuel it was a wash. It was more of a favor than anything -- and I don't think I will be doing it for her again. She did bring me back two lovely figurines of birds, though.
Our newest addition - Lexi the Triton Too - is coming along. We had a bit of a scuffle when she thought she would peck my head and attack my ponytail. Needless to say, the past couple of days have been about her testing the water and pouting. LOL
Kona (M2) is doing great! He is now taking treats from my hand and still loves to be sung to!
The rest of the flock is fine. Dwight is still a people pleaser. I am working on teaching him Aloha, LOL. Stormy, the TAG, goes home in three weeks. I will miss that little guy, and I feel extremely fortunate to have had the opportunity to help him along in his journey.
Next weekend I have two more Jardine's coming. One lesser, and one greater. That will make 4 for us with Ollie and Paulie. I just love that species, though could do without their independent attitudes at times.

Six of our quakers go to a foster tomorrow in Urbana. That will make the house a bit more quiet!
Work has been slow for Curt, so keep your fingers crossed that it will pick up for him soon. Unfortunately, we can't afford for him to lay low for too long.
I guess that is it for now. Need to get to work ...
