So kermies doing great but i want to add some different stuff to his diet.
he gets pellets on mon, weds, and fri seed on tues and thurs and cooked foods &pellets on the weekends my problem is the cooked foods i need toknow what i can prepare in bigger batches and frezze then thaw and feed when it time i hate giving him the same stuff over and over i buy beak apatite or however you spell it for him and some other commercial cooked food. but i thought that i could home cook for him. the reason for the seeds in the diet is i was told that a certain amount of seed in the diet is benifical to the overall health of the bird this came from a zooligist i think he likes the viarity too he doesn't waste as much food as he used too.

One way to do it is to make birdie bread. I like to compose my own. I take about 85% vegetables, 15% fruit, put it in the blender and liquify. I use the liquefied vegetables/fruit as the liquid for the batter.

I crumble the bread and keep it in the freezer. That way, I can thaw only the amount needed at the time and the rest stays frozen.

i make a bean mix with different beans, brown rice, bulgur and sometimes i put pasta in there. once it's ready to serve, i'll sometimes put it in ice cube trays and freeze. once frozen, i crack them out and store them in a zipper bag in the freezer. for louie (the quaker), i normally reheat 1 cube, and the CAG gets 2. i also use frozen veggies instead of fresh. i know fresh is best, and i do give fresh sometimes (which i can pick up in small cups at the gas station), but to keep enough on hand to feed the birds between store visits, it would go bad. they also don't seem to care for the fresh/raw stuff much.

i like buddy's idea about pureeing the veggies and fruit. i always made birdy bread with jiffy corn muffin mix and mixed in veggies, but i'm gonna try the other way - seems like there might be less waste and more veggie intake.

Another way to is to leave pellets all the time.. give seed couple times of week as a treat and then in addition to the cooked food amde in advance supplement with fresh veggies etc...

I'd offer pellets 24/7 and then just add a little seed a couple times a week, I wouldn't withhold the pellets twice a week. wink.gif Seeds are healthy in moderation, but not as their whole daily meal. wink.gif I'd be worried he'd learn that he's going to get seed the next day and then just wait and not even eat the pellets, which are much healthier and are complete with all their reqired nutrients. smile.gif

We just make up a batch of brown rice, rice pasta, whole wheat pasta (other grains if you wish, like bulgar or quinoa) and add in a bunch of veggies... I usually use broccoli/cauliflower florets, peas, chunks sweet potato (I cook the potato first), kale, bean mix etc. (whatever your Q likes, you can basically add anything!) and I usually add in a jar of baby food (squash or sweet potato). Then I freeze it in tablespoon portions, store in containers in the freezer and she gets one each night (if our meal isn't fid appropriate! biggrin.gif)

Happy cooking! smile.gif
