I was lucky to find a really nice used California Cage for Flip. My husband stays up late at night so I have been moving the cage to a spare bedroom at night. It is on wheels but it is still heavy. I was wondering if it would be alright for Flip to sleep in a fiberglass cat sized crate? I can put a perch and food and water dish in and maybe even a happy hut.
What do you think?
p.s. Flip is a Quaker.

That's what I use for travel carriers and they have plenty of room to use as a bedroom. Quite a few people have seperate cages for sleeping and daytime, you could try it and see if he sleeps better in there. But clean it real good so there is no cat saliva or anything in it, and let him play in it and get used to it before just putting him in there. I was changing Spirit to a bigger cage and while I was moving his stuff I put him in one thinking it was bigger than his normal travel cage and he freaked out. So he would need to get used to it.

When we were renovating and the fids cages had to be in the family room for a few nights it was awful because my cages are so big the top part is only covered they would climb down and look at us and want OUT...they are lucky (and we are too) enough to have a room away from us of anight I think for a good rest they need to be in another room if you are up late watching telly /talking in the same room..I would either get a small cage and set it up in a spare room or use the crate if your bird is o.k with it ..I use a cat carrier to take the fids to the vets and have a small cage in my office up stairs that the boys play on top of when they are with me ...
Maybe a smaller size cage would be a good investment anyway that way you could use it if you went some where overnight or for a weekend and take your little guy with you....
Good Luck ...

My husband stays up late and he usually has the TV on pretty loud.
I put Flip's cage in the spare room about 8:00 PM. I close the blinds so the early sun doesn't wake him and we usually get up about 7:00.
He seems well rested.
The cage I am considering using is the one I brought him home in and have taken him to the vet in. He seems comfortable in it.
I guess I will fit out the "sleeping cage" and see how it goes.
Thanks for all the insight and suggestions.

If he is in a room on his own and not being bothered by the evening goings on late why do you want to move him anyway ..??? just cover the top of the cage to give him a bit of darkness and make the cage feel safe and cosy for bed time .. mine usually get out about 8.30am and bed time 8.30pm ...
Why do you want to move him to another room to sleep..??

I don't think he will sleep well with the TV being so loud.
