Hi I'm setting up my coming soon baby Quaker cage and have purchased a few comfy perches, a boing, a happy hut, a safety perch, sandy perch, and multi designed bird toys. My question is how should I set up the inside of the cage for the most fun possible? What's the best set up and way to go decorating wise with perches? I was hoping maybe a few people would upload a picture or two of their birds cage so I could see ideas for how other Quaker owners set up their little guys homes.

Thanks in advance!!!! biggrin.gif

I attached a pic of our cage setup from a couple of weeks ago... just havefun with it... there have been set ups (i change the stuff in the cage around weekly) that kiwi hasnt really liked so i swap it up quicker and some that he LOVED that i felt bad moving everything around on him lol..

Depending on the size of your cage give him a supply of about 4-6 toys and at least three different types of perhches ie. natural wood, rope and a pedi perch your quaker will love it smile.gif Keep in mind to hand toys near perchs for easier access

We put out happy hut in the top right of the cage near the back and we never change its location.. just everything else.. it is kiwis safe zone.. of course we take it out for cleaning etc.. we also put a lil baby face towel in it (got about 3 for a buck at our dollar store) so we dont ahve to wash the hut EVERY day or else it gets really tedious if they poop in it.. our kiwi is 5 monhs old and is just mastering poopingoutside of the hut lol

Have fun and be creative! I thoroughly love rearranging my fids cage.. i usually take time the same time i do a good cage cleaning so im taking everything out cleaning, doing a thorough inspection of toys for wear and tear etc and then putting some away and replacing some with different toys each week....

Keep in mind your bird's size and how easy or difficult it will be for him to clamber around inside to get from perch to perch. Clyde's cage sides north and south are horizontal so he uses them like a ladder, and east and west they're vertical and he uses those like a fireman's pole, which is funny to watch but he doesn't care for those much. So I put his perches about his height apart to allow him to get from one to another without too much work. He has one right in front of his food dishes so it's easy to reach those -- they have little perches on the fronts, too, but the perch is to give him a place to climb onto the food dishes from. I just cleaned his cage and moved his stuff around, though he must be the one Quaker in creation who does NOT appreciate change and variety. He's always a little miffed when I move his perches. Still, I put his rope Comfy Perch up near the top where he likes to sleep and spend most of his time because I thought he'd be more, well, comfy that way. biggrin.gif And I put one of his toys that he usually ignores next to a perch he likes in the hopes that he'll play with it. Experiment and watch your bird and how he uses things and that will help you decide where to put the perches and toys so they're convenient for him.

Thank you so much! Toys wise lol I think I'm good I seem to be worse then someone expecting a real baby for I think between bird shows and online I've bought every fun and interesting thing I can get my hands on from preening toys to forraging toys. My sister was picking on me saying this bird is gonna need a toy chest lol to which I said hey thats a idea! lol. I can't help it though because I have never had a baby before I wanna make sure it's well rounded and learning and entertained and I want it to have all the possible fun it can. Thank you again for the pic and advice!~

Zazu is not here yet but his cage is mostly ready. This is the inside of the cage (it is 24X30). There is a play area on top but it is currently where we put the mail and other odds and ends. I still need to put up his pretty fabric behind the cage and put his foot toys in.

One thing you want to keep in mind when you bring your new baby home........you might want to lower the perches a bit until he/she is real steady on the balance.
