Sondra
Hi all,

My name is Sondra and I will soon be getting my first quaker, which will also be my first bird! I'll either be bringing him home this weekend or next, not sure which yet. He (not really sure if he is a he) is very friendly and knows a few words. He says "pick up" when he steps up and when I feed him he says "want some food? Want some food?". He laughs whenever we laugh and when he thinks something is funny, like biting harder than he should. Not sure how old he is since hes in a rescue.

Thanks for the welcome!

Sondra

Hi Sondra. Welcome to the group.

Being your first bird, I'm sure you will find a lot of the info on this forum useful, and there are so many here that have many years of experience with all kinds of birds. They will be along with some tips for you.

One thing I'd like to say is, take it slow with him at first. Sit by him, talk softly to him (baby talk is good tongue.gif ) and don't rush him into anything. Give him time to trust you. You are new to him, he's in new surroundings and it will take a while for him to get used to everything. He may be very afraid at first.
Some come around quickly, others can take as much as a month. Patience is the key here.

Bless you for giving a "forever" home to a rescue.
