Oh, little Beaker. I picked up this sweet, mostly plucked little guy from the wildlife preserve rescue just a couple of weeks ago. They called me this week and said someone looking for a quaker to adopt was interested in giving him a permanent home.

After several calls and emails, we plan to meet up this weekend and introduce him to his new parront.

I've just become accustomed to his little quirks, and will miss the little guy. It seems he loves to chew on everything, and some small manzanita branches are no match for his beak. He loves getting his head scritches, and have someone preen those little pin feathers. And he tries to talk, sounds like "whacha doin?", and then, "pookie, pookie", so cute! I've started calling him Pookie, and he loves it.

He's also showing signs of becoming a good builder. He'll spend hours moving that little manzanita branch around, sticking it here and there, whereever it will hold up.

When he gets nippy, grasping both sides of his beak gently, and rubbing it, calms him down immediately and gets him back to kissing instead. wub.gif

He's such a sweetheart, and I will miss him. But, the new home he is going to is going to be even better for him. Maybe he'll even begin to let up on the plucking a bit, and make a new friend.

That’s great that you were able to find him his forever home! Hopefully Pookie continues to improve with his new parronts! smile.gif I know you’ll miss him... maybe they will send you some updates to let you know how he’s doing?

*Hugs*

Congratulations! I know letting them go to their forever parronts is the hardest part ... but by far the most satisfying! wink.gif

Thanks. The new, excited, expectant parront is currently the the proud owner of 3 quaker parrots, all rescues, all older birds. Two are bonded and the other is beginning to feel very lonely, and so she wants to try to get him a friend.

I think little Beaker aka Pookie will fit in nicely. He just thrives on attention, and all my birds have bonded buddies, and will not accept a new member into their flock. I just wish she didn't live so far away, and I could take him to his new home. We are meeting half way, and it will still be a six hour minimum round tripf for both of us.

She is just so excited about him, I know I won't feel sad letting him go.
He will have a great life with her.
