Hi, I'm Tammy and live in Dallas Texas. Yugi's been with the family almost 6 years now(will be 6yrs Labor day weekend). He was about 6 weeks old when we got him from a pet store.

Yugi was sorta an impluse buy, we really hadn't researched owning a parrot before we bought him. But luckly we read an article saying that we should have a vet check him over. Come to find out we had bought a very sick little bird, he had a gram negative infection and alittle underweight. With lots of love, medicine and switching him over from seeds, he pulled though.

We went and bought several good Quaker parrot books. My husband started working with Yugi on his "step up"s and birdy manners. Yugi, however, decided to bond to me. Before Yugi I couldn't quite understand why people talked baby talk to their pets and gave them kisses. Yugi's got his kissy sounds down and says "give me a kiss...(kissy sound)". He tolerates my husband only if he thinks that the hubby can be used to get closer to me. I get lots of "flee! danger" nips from him if anyone gets too close to me when Yugi is with me. And of course sometimes i get bites for no reason I can think of. He hates the color red and phones and will try to attack those items. Hmm...this ended up being longer then I thought.

Welcome to the Forum! You are gonna love this place. Your story sounds just like my story when I got my quaker. I didn't do any research either. He actually was a gift from my Hubby, now 8 yrs later, I wouldn't know what it would be like not to have my Mr. Kiwi in my life.
