TOBY HAS THIS HABIT OF PLAY WITH AN OLD SEED CATCHER. IT HAS HOLES IN IT SO I DON'T PUT IT AROUND THE CAGE, IT JUST LAYS ON TOP OF HIS CAGE. IN THE EVENINGS WHEN I OPEN HIS CAGE,HE GOES TO THE TOP AND NIBBLES ON IT,PULLS ON IT AND THEN HE GOES DOWN THE FRONT OF HIS CAGE AND TRIES TO GO UNDER.ANYWAY, YESTERDAY HE START PLAYING WITH HIS CAGE COVER,ALL ITI S IA A BLANKET THAT I USE-$5 AT THE DOLLAR STORE, AND HE TRIED TO BURROW IN IT. I TRIED TO MAKE A LITTLE HOLE FOR HIM. THEN HE KINDA SNUGGLED AGAINST IT. DO YOU THINK I SHOULD GET HIM A SNUGGLE HUT? NOT ONE THAT HE CAN GO INTO AND GET HIS NAILS SNAGGED BUT THE ONE THAT SITS OVER ONE OF THE PERCHES.

Sounds like he needs something to snuggle with.

Awww, that sound so cute. They don't make teddy bears for birdies, do they?

So I think it would be worth a try to get him a happy hut and see if he likes it.

Quakers like to sleep inside something. You can tell that by the nests they make. Conures are the same and I feel that most birds are. I think their natural instincts tell they that at night they are vulnerable prey and they feel secure only if hidden.
My QP and Sun Conure wouldn't hink of sleeping on a perch with nothing to hide in.
I used to hang a scarf down through the bars so it hung down on each side of a perch. They would get in between the sides of the scarf on the perch and sleep. My Sun Conure would even pull it closed so you couldn't see him.
They have happy huts now and sleep in them all the time even those they hated them for about the first week.

Are you supposed to put a perch through a happy hut? I thought you just hung it. I've been thinking of trying to sneak Clyde's into his cage when he's not looking now that it's been lying around for a while, to see if he'll get over hating it and start using it. He doesn't show the slightest inclination to want to have a hidey hole.
So did you get one for Toby? What does he think of it?

NO I HAVEN'T GOT TOBY ONE YET. BUT I WAS LOOKING IN DRS FOSTER AND SMITHS' CATALOG, GOOD THING I HAVE SOME SELF CONTROL, AND THEY HAVE TONS OF DIFFERENT ONES.THEY HAVE THE BUNKER, SNUGGLE SACK, COZY CORNER, SNUGGLE HUT, COZY POCKET, AND THE BIRD TENT.THE COZY POCKET AND THE BIRD TENT ARE THE ONES THAT SIT OVER TOP OF THE PERCHES.
THE REASON I DON'T WANT TO GET THE ONES THAT THEY GO INTO IS, I READ A STORY ON HERE THAT A NICE LADY'S BIRD GOT IT'S NAILS CAUGHT IN THE FABRIC AND COULDN'T GET UNSTUCK AND WAS HANGING UPSIDE DOWN ALL NIGHT AND HAD PASSED ON. I DON'T WANT THAT TO HAPPEN TO TOBY,THAT'S WHY I WAS THINKING OF THE COSY POCKET.

I got Griffin a house and he HATED it. Turns out he likes alittle bigger space so he has a perch like this
http://www.birdsofparadiserus.com/images/c...r_perch_01a.jpgwith a dish towel covering all the sides for privacy as well as across the top but with an open front and he LOVES it!! He sleeps there every night. I think he prefers being able to walk around and turn without having to get out. That and Griffin doesn't seem to like being closely confined. I agree with equine I think it is natural for them to want to be more protected at night!

Just to add.. I dont tihnk you need to put a perch through it so to speak.. some qp will like to have the happy hut gently resting over a perch so its easier to get in and out from both sides..
personally we just hang ours in the top back corner of kiwi's cage with a perch close by the front and theres no prob... and he seems to easily climb in and out both entrances..

Bijou has a perch tent, which he loves, it's like it says, a perch with the tent over the top, but hasn't got a bottom to it, so no need to keep the bottom clean, it's just that sometimes he goes to sleep at night on the top of it, and messes down the side

Elliot sleeps in this one from Dr. Foster and Smith
http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod...fm?pcatid=17999
as you can see he builds nests in it
And Spree sleeps in this hut from sunconure.com
http://sunconure.com/sleep_tent.html we got it because it was much safer than this one that she just tore apart and shreaded to pieces.

Majj those are the nicest cages I have ever seen. Where on earth did you get them?
And how did you make those little sleepers for them?
The one that Elliott is sleeping in is the one I am talking about, just like that. I believe that is the one I will get Toby.
Thanks.
