Clyde's had a month to get used to the sight of the Happy Hut, which has been parked outside his cage, and has continued to glare at it every time I showed it to him. However, I decided to try putting it in his cage today (while he was outside of his cage) to see what he'd do once it was hung up where he could see what it's for. He crawled all around it, above it, below it, beside it, looking it over, then he attacked and chewed on it a bit, and when I decided I didn't like where I'd hung it -- it looks inconvenient to get into -- and started to move it, he objected strenuously, so I left it there. He's not cage aggressive anymore and will let me put stuff in -- though he doesn't like it if I take stuff OUT -- and even if it is in an inconvenient place, having it there might get him used to it and then I can move it later if he seems to like it at ALL. His attack seemed more a matter of form than substance. I don't think he's afraid of it now. I think he just wanted to see what it was. If he decides he likes it, should it be up high where his favorite perch is? I didn't want to put it up there to start with in case he was afraid of it, because then he wouldn't be able to sit on his favorite perch.
This afternoon, Hubby hung a sturdy shelf about a foot from the ceiling for Clyde to stroll on if he wants to, and we put an artificial tree (like a fake fig tree) on the table behind his cage for him to climb on. He wouldn't try the shelf and he only looked at the tree, but he doesn't seem afraid of either one, just indifferent.
