Today, I visited one of the biggest parrot refuges in the world. It is located near parent's on Vancouver Island.

I met some really friendly cockatoos, and even got a behind the scenes tour. It was hard at first to come in as these are all abandoned birds..but the people who take care of them are amazing! One Amazon (red lored maybe) came to me right away.

There was even a rare Hyacinth Macaw there.

If you ever come to Vancouver, please, take a sidetrip on the ferry to Vancouver Island, and head up north past Nanaimo.

Wow---what a setup they do have there and a very dedicated team to keep it going.....I've saved this clip and will look at it more in depth a little later....

I just can't imagine all the birds that get abandoned by people....Just mind boggling to me....

I would absolutely love to visit the World Parrot Refuge ...

Many of the birds have been surrendered for different reasons .. and it is my understanding that the birds in the refuge are for the most part happy, healthy and comfortable amongst their own ..

This refuge is an organization most definitely worth seeing and supporting ..

I would even consider and have been researching something of this nature to will my birds to with a donation .. versus having them re-homed should they survive me ...

Wow! That is incredible. How do they receive the funds needed?
The rescue that I'm helping out at ~ is so desperate for more funds. The founder pays for most things out-of-pocket and I don't think it's right...
Any suggestions for making money anyone?
