The following is in our local newspaper today and it sorta got my attention and just wanted to share---------
Scroll down near the bottom and there is a small write up about it....Maybe some of you aren't familiar with the Carolina Parakeet, but just the same, wanted to get the message out....

Near extinction? He has been extinct fot many years. It was the only parrot species native to the usa.

Actually, it is extinct sad.gif Such a beautiful parrot.

There are people that go on expeditions all the time trying to find one. Some have even said they seen one, but there is little to no proof.

Yes, the Carolina Parakeet became extinct in the 1930s and was "officially" declared so in 1939.

It's a shame. Such beautiful birds.

Okay--I retract that statement and say is extinct and has been for years....thanks for correcting me....I was thinking the word "near" but really didn't mean to type it....

The specimen they have at the museum is even getting extinct...lol....

What a beautifull bird..thats a real shame i wonder how they went extinct....thats it they need to clone with its dna like in jerastic park : )

It's sad when we lose the opportunity to observe such beatiful creatures because of our own greed and disregard. sad.gif

Yes another sad fact of man vs nature. They were beautiful parrots and such a great loss as a native species. Too bad they didn't take better care of the speciman they had so we could at least see what they looked like besides pictures.
