I have never cut up jalapeno peppers before.......usually hubby does it. I decided to help him. I got them all cut up. We ate dinner, YUMM and then my hands were on FIRE! They are still burning today. I did an internet check to see how to neutralize the juice that is in my hands. I have soaked them in vinager, felt some relief while they were in the vinegar. I have tried everything suggested, except bleach solution and milk. I don't have any milk and don't really feel like driving to the store right now.
Anybody have any remedies that work FAST?????

Try sugar paste/water... that might help
Other than that, milk or dairy products are your best bet... yogurt or cream cheese would also work if you have some of that.
You could also try lemon juice or tomato juice.
The only other suggestion I can think of is to use an egg to try and emulsify the oil from the peppers... crack an egg into a big bowl and rub it into your hands REALLY vigorously... then wash it off... repeat a couple of times and see if that offers any relief.

Thanks Jamie.......I now have tried the bleach solution and tried baking soda paste, rubbing alchohol. You should of seen me taking a bath. The hot water on my hands hurt so very bad. It is just like a very bad sunburn. I am trying to color my hair right now and as soon as I get done I am going to the store to get some milk. I can't believe those little peppers would cause such pain! I do know one thing, I learned my lesson and won't do that again.

In addition to the milk you might want to buy some cream cheese. Your hands will smell like a bagel but since it is thick you can rub it in and keep it on if the milk doesn't give you perminant relief.

The oil in the pepper is what is causing the discomfort.
I have heard 2 ways to help.
1. Use another oil to displace. (i.e. use vegetable oil, soak, repeat, etc...)
2. Dissolve the oil, use a degreaser. (i.e. engine cleaner, goop, simple green, etc...)
Not sure if that will help, but good luck....I understand that milk soothes, but does not stop the oil....

that's why i always always put sour cream on my mexican food before loading up with hot sauce lol. milk/dairy cuts the film from the peppers. water makes it worse. i don't understand the science behind it, but it makes my food yummier.

My first thought was "milk!" when I read the first post ... milk takes the bite out of the capzasin oil in the peppers when you eat them, why not when you have the oil on your skin?
WikiAnswers also says degreaser (I'll bet Dawn dishwashing detergent would work), but I'd have gone with the milk first. Glad to hear it DID give you relief. Rubber gloves when cutting jalapenos!!

I was going to say swish your fingers around in a bowl of beans. It might not stop the burning but the beans sure would taste good.

Oh Sandi, so very sorry you had to experience that!!! My aunt went through something similar a few years ago. She actually had serious burns on her hands. Serious enough for an ER visit. She now makes a point to wear gloves.
Hope you heal up quickly!!

You can actually get burns and blisters from them... usually you see it with pepper spray or mace but if you were handling enough peppers I could see you winding up with burns. YEOUCH!

Glad you got some relief with the milk, Good thing you didn't rub your eyes. A gal I know actually got burns on her eye from the juice squirting into her eye. And the emergency room doctor flushed her eye with milk.
When I was younger and worked at the YWCA around the pool, we always kept milk handy so that we could wash eyes out from the chlorine in the pool.
Also it works well for welders too when they get flash burns.

So Sorry you had to go through that...
We cook a lot with Habanero (spelling?) peppers and my mom in law makes pepper sauce with them.. i was in misery the one afternoon she was making it.. picture blended about 20 super hot peppers with onion, garlic in a blender.. the fumes were terrible!
Glad the milk helped!! I had to keep a glass with me when i was getting used to spicy food
