Looking into getting a really tall cage.Like 4 or 5 ft. Is tall ok for Quakers? Or must the cage be wide. He won't be in it too often.
PacosMom
The minimum cage size for a quaker is suggested 18 x 18.

In my opinion, that is TOO SMALL. At least 20x24 width or larger is good.

If it is 4 - 5 ft tall, it probably is about that width.

Bigger is always better, just make sure the bar spacing is not too wide.
Casey's Mom
Wider is better than tall as they like to perch in the highest spot in the cage so more space will get used if it's wider. smile.gif If you get a cage too big though the bar spacings will be too big, don't get any bigger than 3/4", 1/2" or 5/8" is recommended. smile.gif

Yes I agree with Casey's mom...Wider is def. better. Our quaker rarely uses the bottom 3/4 of his cage and only uses the top...Wider is better. But like she said..you don't want the spacing to be too big. If you get a few pics of ones you are looking at..post them here and we can help:)

Barspace is 1/2". Here is a picture of the new(used) bird cage (With current owner of cage's Quaker Parrot birds in it):

Owner bought it for $140 and had it two mos but needs to get rid of it due to moving. Offered it to me for $40.

Also, here is a pic of a playstand my husband made for PrettyBoy.

I wouldn`t buy it even though it looks wide enough I doubt that your bird would use the bottom half and its going to use a lot of room in your home as you can see the birds are up the top and thats where they would most likely stay..
What size is your cage now ? I like the tree branch and play area ...if your bird is out more than in I wouldn`t worry about a new cage unless it was wider rather than taller. Thats just my opinion..My boys live in huge cages 2ft x 3ft x 5ft tall one each but they are combined so they use both together..
I can also see some smaller wire attached to the front of the cage ..?? it wouldn`t be safe IMO as its not powder coated and I would be scared of metal poisoning if the birds were to chew on it..
Of course this is just my opinion others may dissagree.. smile.gif its really your call..

I agree... your going to spend soo much time trying to be creative and convince your qp to venture to the bottom of the cage.. i have that problem and my cage is only 36 inches high... wider is most definitely better smile.gif

Good luck and happy shopping!

To be honest, I figured as much, about him probably not using the bottom, and so it going to waste.

That's why I wanted opinions. I like wider cages better too. biggrin.gif

So will keep looking. Another person I now that breeds Quakers,(I've met so many since I started my search for a Quaker! biggrin.gif) has a bigger and better sounding cage that is like 2ft by 3ft or something.

Does that sound better for him?

I want to get a cage that Pretty Boy is going to like and get the most use out of. biggrin.gif
Andrea5699
that does sound better...
our kiwi has a 22x22x36 tall cage that is perfect... tons of room for wing flapping and climbing around with enough space to hanng about 4-7 toys depending on their size.. we can also fit comfortably a couple pedicure perches, a rope perch and a natural wooden perch smile.gif

We got ours from ebay for cheap as well smile.gif
Hope that helps!

yep !! 2ft by 3ft is great as long as the bar spacing is right 3/4", 1/2" or 5/8" ..
Here are my boys monster cages ... 3x5x5ft tall as you can see I only cover the top and sides they sleep in a jolly ball and if I sleep late they can come down to see out..They do use the bottom of the cagee to play during the day if I have them locked in their room but doors are open they are free from 8.30am to 8.30pm with 2 hours locked in with their dinner of a night 5pm to 7pm so we can eat in peace.. smile.gif then they come out for a couple of hours to share family time with hubby and son... tongue.gif

Well this lady breeds Quakers and so it will be a Quaker cage.

So I just called her a bit ago, and told her that yes, I will want one, so she is actually buying it new for me and selling it to me for $25. Then driving it out to me as our van died. biggrin.gif
