We've been grinding our own wheat berries to make wheat flour and it got me wondering how I could give the whole grains to Yugi. We've got wheat berries, rye grain, buckwheat grain and oatmeal. Anyone know how I need to prepare these? Can he eat them in whole raw form? Or does the grain need to be cooked first?
Oh and what about nuts like almonds?
Boy, he is one lucky little guy. I have given those to Gizmo, but cooked them first. My vet also recommended organic Amaranth and Quinoa. Amaranth looks like mush when cooked, but just stir up and it tastes like corn. We love it ourselves and high in protein. Quinoa, pronounced Keen-Wa is excellent in taste and nutrition. Get the prewashed in the box because granules are very tiny. It stands alone as a complete protein. Gizmo likes the Amaranth the best. I mix it with the organic 13 bean soup, minus the flavoring. You should be able to find it in any health food store. Oh, yes, almonds are also really good, even thou Gizmo won't eat them. Serve any way you would like. Yugi really has great parents. Have fun!
