I have been toying with the idea of pet insurance. After my Doberman's little grass incident ($1400 worth of GRASS in his tummy all the way to the esophogas) and the grey babies with the faulty thermometer having to have crop surgery, mom's bird getting his leg broken (for those who remember Booger the amazon)... I had been thinking of taking out pet insurance on the fids (dog, cat, ferret and avian...the roos aren't covered yet). The only company that covered all the members of the family (except the roos) was VPI (Veterinary Pet Insurance). Their site is
www.petinsurance.com and they offer free quotes and different packages of coverage for all the different critters. They even have an allowence for PLUCKERS and MUTILATORS!!! They also offer preventive procedures like blood work-ups yearly...I was actually very impressed. To have Cinco covered, it was $23.25 US and that was the top of the line plan with the added coverage for the yearly visits. When I can get a bit more stable on the finances...I am so doing it!!! The yearly total was $255, and I can honestly say that is LESS than any of my previous vet bills for the birds.

So if it's something that may fit your budget, it is available for those of us owned by the feathered babies FINALLY!!!
