Ozzy's Mam

Ive had my QP for over three years, since he was a baby. Never had any problems with plucking or anything before but I recently went on holiday and he was left with someone coming into feed him and change water. TV was left on for him and I know now that he has obviously been bored or feeling neglected, hence the feather plucking. We have been back from holiday for a week now and today he has taken to clinging to the very top of his cage. He wont go on any of his perches or anthing and has just clung to the bars all day. He has plucked the odd feather since we got back but mostly has left them alone and you can see new re-growth.
Why would he be clinging to the bars on his cage and not moving?? He hasnt done anything like this before and we are geting worried about him now.
Any help would be appreciated x

You really should have him checked out by an avian vet. A sudden change in behavior, and plucking too, can be caused by health problems.
Good luck!

I wish I knew. They must have hundreds of different reasons for doing the things they do. I often think we'd have to see inside their minds to know what's up with them.
Recently my Bo started plucking his chest. For some reason he wanted to be on me ALL the time and was not used to that. I had changed his pellets and given him some Harrison's. That's when he started plucking and wanting to be with me all the time.
As soon as I started him on Roudybush instead, he quit plucking and is willing to spend more lime in his cage.
I am going to Canada for 2 weeks soon but hubby will be here to take care of the animals. He may become hubby's bird while I'm away. Kiwi too...!?

A vet check probably wouldn't be a bad idea, but my guess is he just missed you and wants you to play with him and play with him and play with him ... Critters don't really have a time sense (except for "time to eat"

) so to him, you were gone FOREVER. Maybe he's just kind of freaked out and doesn't know how else to relieve his stress. Do you have time to give him some extra attention? My furbabies and Clyde are always extra clingy when I just work late. "Where WERE you??? We were worried SICK!" and our Lab is likely to do something bizarre to relieve her stress.

Mine did the same thing when left for the weekend.
They just sometimes get an 'attitude' when they feel left out, as when we are gone.
Try to spend as much time as you can talking to him, and just let him hear the sound of your voice, and it will help to calm him down. He may still be afraid you are going to leave again, and it could take several days before he's comfortable again.
Make sure he's eating, sleeping and pooping fine. If so, calm reassurance is probably all thats needed.

Awwwwwwwwww poor baby I would have to take him out and give him lots of cuddles to try and re-assure him Mommy loves him sounds like he is scared , I think just calm talking and trats and extra loving with you might get him over this dilema..I hope so anyway best of luck ..
