Full Version: Problem Getting Mollie Out
Quaker Parrots Forum > For Quaker Parrots Only > Quaker Parrot Behavior

Mollie has been molting the last couple of weeks. She has been a bit crabby, but that is okay. The problem is she does not want to come out and play or get her shower. She has been very territorial of her cage for about a year now so I have always just opened the door and she would come out and step up. She seems happy enough talking to me and coming to the side of the cage to see me even sitting on the door opening looking around. She is eating fine, playing with her toys, but will not come out all the way and step up. I have tried to get her to step up on a perch or ladder even with treats but no luck. Anyone ever have this problem or any ideas of how to get her out? wacko.gif

Is there a new animal in the house that may have frightened her?

You can always Make her step up or put her in a hampster grab and just bring her out. Sometimes they just need to be reminded that you are the boss, and sometimes she just has to do something she doesn't want to do.

Yep , my boys are always keen to get FREE BUT somtimes Buddy will play hard to get , I just bodily pick him up and get him out and kiss him all over his little feathered body while I have him ..I think he thinks its a bit of a game and is just wanting kisses from Mum.. smile.gif

I will give it a try but she can be nippy and may bite. So if she bites I may have to grin and bear it. There is nothing new here and she does come right up to the doorway but will not step up from there or climb to the top of her cage. She is stubborn, like I have said before I think stubborn is her middle name!!

You could try stick training. Try to get her to stick up to a perch you hold in your hand and then bring her out.
