Just curious. There was an ad on craigslist but this one was a bit diff. The lady had a catalina macaw. Sent pics of the bird alone and with 2 ladys handleing it. Beautiful bird. Had a long personal story to go with it. But of course wanted me to send money first for shipping but the bird was free. Said she was pregnant and hubby sick so she didnt have money to send the bird first and then collect later. Which I told her to send the bird and when I had him in hand I wanted to see shipping receipts and I would send her the money then. LOL. Course she told me she was legit. I told her thanks but no thanks. I guess she could be for real but I told her by the time I spent money for shipping of bird with cage and other accessaries then I would have more money in it than it was all worth. rolleyes.gif

The only Cameroon I know of is in Africa. I would definately not go along with any kind of deal where you send money first. This is the easiest way for people to scam you on sites like Craigslist. She could be the one in a million that is legit but odds are against it. I personally would flag the ad as well.

I did flag it. and no, she wasnt gonna sucker me in. I only answered it because I found the ad under southeast MO. which would be pretty close to me if I had wanted to drive there. smile.gif

I have been involved in trying to get this stopped, including trying to entrap these bandits and sending all the information I can gather to the Cameroon Police.

The one I see most often is a Hyacinthine Macaws offered at $200. All you need to do is send the guy another $200 by Western Union for him to pay to have the bird shipped over...

Utter scam! mad.gif

Cameroon is not able to sell to anyone in the US or Canada legally since all import has been banned for almost 20 years now...so if you don't know where some place is and they're asking very low prices on birds you can almost be guaranteed its a scam.

I sure hope you didn't really send them any money. If you really did, put a stop payment on the check. If they ask for western union or a money order or cashiers check, that's another red flag

Just a note here....even if it isn't a scam (which it is, because as Connie said, it is illegal to ship birds from Cameroon to US/Canada, AND, to have any bird shipped into the US or Canada from anywhere other then US or Canada, you are looking at a pile of paperwork and months of waiting time), anyways, even if it isn't a scam, remember, you get what you pay for. Anyone who is selling a bird to a total stranger for dramatically less then what it is worth, is more likely selling you a very sick bird. People are not going to take that much of a price cut for no reason.

Usually if it is too good to be true, then it probably is. wink.gif

If you are saying that you hoped I didnt send them any money then you are correct. I sure didnt. I thought I said that. but no matter. I told her why I was skeptical and that she might have been on the up and up but i wasnt doing it. smile.gif
