Hi everybody, I'm getting my new baby QP on Saturday, I can't wait! wub.gif Me and my fianc é have decided to call him Charlie, let's hope he will like the name wink.gif . I write "he" because the breeder told us that he probably is a male, because he's a bit bigger than the other babies and also the shape of his head looks more like of a male... well, I don't know if that's true, but time will tell. What do you think about that? I know that the only sure way to know is getting DNA tests, but still... Anyway, I don't care if it's a girl or a boy, so we will see.

When I lived with my parents we had some budgies, a lovebird and a cockatiel and I loved all of them. They were all very different in their character and they were all very special to me. Since I moved in with my fiancé, I've missed a company of a bird very much. So we decided to get a QP. The only problem was that there is only very little information available in my native language and so I had to go and look somewhere else... and that is how I got here. wink.gif I've spent the last two weeks just reading whenever I could and have learnt so much, thank you all for sharing all the information!

Welcome to the forum! smile.gif I think you might be our first member the the Czech Republic! biggrin.gif Yay!

Congrats on your new baby Quaker, hopefully this week flies by for you so you can go pick him up! smile.gif There is a head shape theory that some people use to sex birds but it's obviously not 100% accurate. It works sometimes and other times it doesn't. smile.gif If you want to be more accurate you'll have to get the DNA done.

Feel free to ask as many questions as you'd like, everyone here is very friendly and willing to help! smile.gif Looking forward to hearing all about Charlie! Welcome!

Welcome to the forum!!! And congrats on your upcoming Quaker!!! They are fantastic birds and I'm sure you will enjoy Charlie as much (if not more) then you did your former birds biggrin.gif

As for the way your breeder sexed the bird, I'm afraid that neither method is reliable. The only way to know for sure is DNA or surgical sexing. Personally, I feel it's best to know the sex of your bird because if your bird is female, then you should be aware of egg laying issues (single hens do have the potential to lay eggs with, or without, a mate).

I'm looking forward to hearing how Charlie fits into your home when you bring him home this weekend!! smile.gif
