Hi everyone and thanks for welcoming clover and I. I was wondering if I could get some advice, Clover talks and gets out of his cage and also is eating good. I have had him about 4 months and when you try to pet him or get him to step up he bites you and I have been spending lots of time with him. The woman I got him from said that she would put him in the shower and he would go in and out of the water as he wanted but when we introduced him to our shower he got really scared and tried to get out of the room. So now I think he is molten and is always I scratching himself and pluckin his feathers so thats why I thought getting him in some water would help him. When we got him we went out and got him a huge cage and all so he has a great enviroment I don't know why he isin't letting us rub him or why he will not step up I know he knows how she had him step up for her when I went to get him. I dont want to push him to get used to us any advise would be great thanks everyone this is a great forum.

When you say plucking his feathers, does he actaully have bald spots on his body or is he just preening his feathers? If he actaully has bald spots then I'd highly recommend a trip to the vet to rule out illness. wink.gif

Hopefully some others have some more ideas!

We use a spray bottle to gently mist Wallace and he loves it, or a bowl of shallow water with supervision can be good too.
As for biting, he might be testing your limits, or he could be cage aggressive, or if he's molting it could be hormones. When they're molting they tend to get pretty grumpy as it's uncomfortable.

Four months may not be enough time. We have had our sun conure for 4 months and she is not fully used to the house just yet. She is just now starting to come around and enjoy being with the family. All birds are different and depending on the situation it may take more time for Clover to get adjusted. Try not to force your hand upon him. It sounds like he may be frightened. Maybe you need to take it a little slower. Good luck smile.gif
