We are heartbroken as our QP Polly flew out our back door today. My little girl is devastated and we searched and called out for her for hours but could not find her.
Does anybody know if she will be able to come back on her own? We put her cage out on the back patio with her toys and food in there. Please say a little prayer for us as we get through this. That she comes home or that if someone takes her that they treat her well and love her like we did.

Oh no! I'm no expert in the field but I've heard/read a lot of posts wher people have found Qp's in the wild. I'd suggest (and again, I'm no expert) getting outside and letting your voice be heard.
I hope she comes back real soon.

Thank you so much for your input. I certainly appreciate it. I will certainly get out there and walk our neighborhood to see if she will respond to my calls. I have also printed out some flyers and passed them around. I will go post some at the Vets office in our area and hope for the best.

Oh how terrible , print out leaflets and post around the streets /local stores visit homes in your neighbourhood and ask them to check their yards and trees , yes putting the cage out may help coax her down ..This is very sad , was polly clipped or fully flighted (I ask because they can still fly when clipped) if she is fully flighted at least she will be safe from ground preditors. Sending hugs and saying prayers for your little Q.P........did she have a band on..?? if so at least anyone finding her would know she is a pet..
OOps I just read you have done all those things ..Sending prayers and fingers crossed here...

I am sorry to hear this....hopefully a neighbor has seen her and it is just a matter of time that your posters and your neighbors see them. I would also advertise on your local Craigslist.org under lost and found. Also post on petfinders.com.

The advice you have gotten is sound. The only thing I can add is keep the child involved as well ie: making and handing out flyers. Ill keep you in my prayers and please keep us posted.

I would also call all the pet shops, shelters and vets in the area in case someone finds her and reports it to them.
Don't give up. Sometimes they are recovered after weeks of being out.

Here's a little bit of hope! My neighbor has a cocatiel and he got out one day. He was gone all night and the next day he came back. Keep calling for her. Sooner or later your voice will be heard. Keep us posted. My heart and prayers are with you, your daughter and Polly.

Put an ad in the paper, if you haven't already, in addition to posting notices all over your neighborhood. Describe Polly because a lot of people won't know what a Quaker looks like. I'd never even heard of them before we got Clyde. Is she tame enough to go to someone who calls her by name? I'll certainly pray that you get her back. People might miss the fliers and notices but they might notice the ad in the paper, and she might fly far enough to get out of your neighborhood, so an ad will ensure that people all over your community will know you're looking for her.

No news from our little Polly yet. I am so touched by all your well wishes and prayers. I have tears in my eyes. My daughter and I will go down to the vets office and give them flyers. Also, I will do the craigslist ad...great idea!
I told my little girl that Polly is in God's hands. We prayed and she was up crying until the wee hours of the morning. She finally fell asleep exhausted. I told her that if it is God's will He will bring our Polly back to us and if not then we must accept the fact that He has made the right decision.
God bless you all and thank you all from the bottom of my broken heart.

You can post on these two websites as well:
http://www.birdhotline.com/And...
http://www.pets911.com/services/lostandfound/index.phpDon't give up, whatever you do. Get the word out...the more people who hear about it, the better chance you have of getting your bird back. Also, I'm not sure where you live, but if there are other towns/cities close to you, I'd send out notices there as well. Birds can fly many, many miles.
Also, I'd contact the local radio/tv stations as they usually have some sort of lost/found animal spot on air.
Wishing you the best of luck.

I am so sorry about Polly. Don't overlook the possibility that she is still close by, but too scared to make sounds. Don't assume you would hear her, and look very carefully in any shrubbery around the house and in any trees, as well as your rooftop and any little nooks and crannies where a bird might hide. You're in my prayers too.

I'm so sorry to hear about Polly.

Like the others have said, don't give up... stay positive and hopefully you or someone else will find him and he'll arrive back home safely. A friend of mine lost their Grey a little while back, she was out all night long, they found her the next day and followed her all around the city until they were able to coax her back down to safety, so anything is possible!
Big Hugs to you and your daughter. Good luck!

I'm very sorry to hear this, I know how yoy feel my Shamrock escaped from the sitter house last month. He was found 3 days later only a couple buildings away.
The things I did was put up posters with his pic and my phone#. I also printed out
postcard size pictures of Shamrock with my contact info on it and put them into all the mailboxes in the area. I also took out an ad in the paper. I also notifed the vets and pat stores in the area. I hope your ending is like mine best of luck John

No good news yet. We still hold out hope and continue to pray. I'm debating on whether we should get her another QP to help her deal with this. On the other hand, what if it makes it worse by constantly reminding her of Polly's absence? I'm just so confused and completely devastated.

Why don't you ask your daughter what she wants you to do about getting another bird? I wouldn't give up hope just yet, but you probably should consider the possibility that Polly won't come home. Maybe someone found her and took her in and is taking good care of her. I SO hope she comes back.

Well, we went ahead and got our daughter another QP. Our hearts are broken that our Polly has not come home and that it is very possible that someone has her but won't give her up. She was too cute.
We continue to hold out hope and pray that our Polly eventually comes back to us but we must also be realistic and know that she may not come back. I pray that she is fine and that God will take care of her wherever she is.
Thank you all for your prayers. They are greatly appreciated.
Our new QP is a little boy and his name is Vinnie. He is four months old and loves to cuddle, shake his little head as he spreads his wings and opens his beak to be fed.
Thanks again for your kind words and prayers. God bless each and every one of you and your beloved little feathered friends.

Don't give up. Keep an add in the paper -with a reward and you might get her back. The paper is a place that more people will see the missing bird ad. You may get her back yet.

Diana I am so sorry that Polly hasn't made it back home but it is like you said..someone could have her and won't give her up...If that be the case, I just hope they will take good care of her....but I do hope Polly will some day make it back to you....Esther made a good point about placing and ad with a reward attached.....
And congratulations on getting Vinnie...I know your daughter is happy about that..wishing you all the very best in loving and caring for him.....

Aug 26 2008, 07:46 AM
I'm sorry Polly hasn't come home yet. I think you're probably right about the probability her being at somebody's house. Hopefully they are trying to find out where she came from.
How is little Vinnie doing? Is he settling in good? I'm sure he's well on his way to working his way into your hearts by now. Quakers waste no time at getting that done.

Another good tip I read about in a bird book says that when you post an ad in the paper trying to get a pet back, make sure and mention some inperfection so they are more likley to give her back. Like a medical problem or what not. Worth a try...
kate
Aug 27 2008, 07:22 AM
Yes, you might say that the bird needs a VERY expensive medicine that he gets every other day and will get very sick and could possibly die without it. If someone has it they may decide they should give it back.
