Has anyone gotten this done on any of their birds? Was it successful?

We don't need it for Drago, but Jane is out of control! She has laid 2 clutches and seems to be working on a third. We can't take the nest box out yet because there are still babies in it and we are not home enough to hand feed the babies. She has been demanding mating from Gaeton again. It seems like she gets annoyed when only 2 of her 5 eggs hatch and she isn't satisfied. This is the same thing that happened with the last clutch, when the first baby hits about 18 days, she wants to mate again.

There is birdie birth control. Most vets use Lupron shots. This would be something that you'd have to discuss with your vet. Because she is raising chicks, taking her to the vet for a shot may very well cause her to abandon the chicks, meaning you'll have to handfeed if the male can't keep up.

Why do you think she's getting ready to lay a third clutch?

She is acting the same exact way she was before she laid the 2nd clutch. She has cleaned out the eggs that didn't catch and doing more construction on the nest. Jane is also pretty much begging Gaeton to mate with her non-stop and that is only behavior we have seen from her when she is ready to lay aeggs.

I really think she just isn't fulfilled with the number of eggs that hatch.

Is Gaeton doing a good job of feeding the chicks? If so, you may want to consider removing Jane from the nestbox/cage and see how that goes. Because there are only a couple babies, Gaeton should be able to handle feeding them, so long as he's currently doing it now.

OR, let her go ahead and lay the eggs, then addle the eggs so they don't hatch (or replace them with fake eggs), by the time the new eggs are suppose to hatch, the current babies will be old enough to remove the nestbox from the cage and leave the babies in the cage with the parents (the babies should be fully feathered and won't need the warmth of the nestbox).

Ideally, double clutching is acceptable, but triple clutching is kinda pushing it. If she does lay a third time, once the babies are old enough to have the nest box removed, I'd give her a good, long break. At least 6 to 8 months before setting her up again (this may mean removing her from the male to avoid mating/egg laying).

We were fully prepared for 2 and that is where we would like her to stop. Gaeton doesn't really interact with the babies at all. She lets him in the box when she feels like or she is hungry so he can feed her (She rarely easts on her own). Form what I understand that is pretty normal for love birds.

Right now I am not working, but am really close to getting a job that would start in a few weeks. I would be home most afternoons for the afternoon feedings. I guess if we pulled the babies now - if I remember correctly - they are on 4 feedings and to the point where they may not accept handfeeding. The last clutch we had went from 4 to 3 feeding very quickly and we completely weaned at roughly at two months of age (which was much quicker than we expected).
