Well as some of you may know, gidyup3 adopted a sweet little caique named Timber a couple months ago. She has been working with him but he just is NOT bonding to her ... she decided to re-home him yet again (poor baby sad.gif ) due to his aggression with her (sometimes). He is really a sweet bird - at least so far dry.gif - and I know she really worked hard to get him to like her, but you know how birds are - they pick their people - he liked her hubby, but her, not so much.

She was sweet eough to let me get my dream bird, Timber, and we just got home. He was getting a bit car sick from the long ride home (met him about 3, left about 4, stopped to pick up dinner and went to the park to eat, he stayed in the carrier but went everywhere with us, and finally got home about 7 so at least 4 hours without food or water and traveling). As soon as I put food and water into the temporary cage I have for him, he jumped right in and started munching! biggrin.gif I know he was hungry with the long time without ... he is now chowing on pistachios, almonds, pellets (thank you for converting him J) and messing up his nice clean water (he is a BIG TIME dunker).

The rest of the flock is looking at him trying to figure out who/what he is. They can see him but not get close to him. I've TOLD them who he is and told HIM who they are, but until quarantine is over, no contact but sight/sound.

So far, so good. He is a bit cage aggressive if he has food. When he is in the cage munching, I tried to make sure the cage was locked and he let me know in no uncertain terms that he wanted to be left alone to eat!! hehehe

He is now going back and forth between the food bowl and the water bowl. He's not happy being inn the cage but I know its just because everything is new to him. Will let him out again later after the rest of the flock is back in bed.

Anyway, wanted to let yall know the latest. I may be back for advice on caique behavior biggrin.gif but for now - WELCOME HOME TIMBER!!

Thank you for posting this Jo! Also, keep me updated occasionally, ok? I'm sure I'll be reading all about him as things progress. I now wish that you had met him first before me. He was starting to adjust here, now all of a sudden he has to be uprooted again. It's just so unfair to him. However, I know you will give him the best of care, even better than what I could have given him!

I did cry a bit after you guys left. (The look on his face as you guys pulled away set me off.) He may not have liked me much, but I still got a little attached, you know. wub.gif We'll miss his whistling and surfing and shirt diving. Though, I'm glad he's found his "forever" home, and that you could get your dream bird! Enjoy him!

I know how hard it is to rehome a fid. No matter WHAT the problems. I had a Quaker that HATED me and I worked with her for months....she just would draw blood every time! sad.gif When I finally had to rehome her to keep my fingers intact, she went right to her new mommy and daddy and when they drove off with her, I cried, too. Even tho I tried EVERYTHING with her. I told you about how long it took me with Nala, so you know I didn't give up easily. sad.gif

Right now Timber is giving me a full head massage!! LOLOLOL My hair is short and he is TRYING to hair surf. laugh.gif I hope when he finally gets off the top of my head that I don't have to shave it to get it unmatted!! dry.gif biggrin.gif

I may have to hire him out as a masseuse!!! laugh.gif laugh.gif

Congratulations Jo! smile.gif I'm sorry it didn't work out with you, Julianna sad.gif but it sounds like you tried everything... hopefully he'll settle in quickly with Jo! smile.gif We'll definitely need some pictures of him hair surfing! biggrin.gif

*Hugs* to both of you!

I'll second your sentiments, Jo
Welcome home, Timber! I hope this will be it for Timber.
My Kiwi still bites me after 8 years, but also cuddles and snuggles with me, wants to be with me, but bites anyway. At this point, I am sure she will NEVER get over it, but I'll just love her anyway. The snuggle/cuddle time certainly makes up for the biting. ( I cover my hand and arm, so it really doesn't matter) wub.gif

Congratulations Jo, I know Julianna how hard it is to give up a bird even though it didn't seem to like you you still loved him anyway. Caique's can be pretty difficult sometimes and they will definitely let you know when they just don't care for someone. I've had some pretty nasty bites from a couple caiques that decided they didn't like women in general.

I'm sure Timber has found a great home. But don't let the one experience turn you against all caiques because they aren't all that way.

Sending big hugs to both of you!

As requested....hair surfing fun!!!!

He looks so proud of his hair styling prowess, doesn't he????? dry.gif

Awww, Timber, such a happy boy. tongue.gif Hey Jo, you'll have to update your siggy soon! Can't wait to see Timber on there!

After this experience, I think the only way I'll be getting another bird right now is if someone drops one on my front porch, or if I happen to find my dream bird (fiery-shouldered conure) as a re-home or adoption. Caiques are fun, but I can't take the beak. Just too much power, especially when the bird doesn't like you very much. I don't know how anyone can handle a full bite from the bigger birds! No way! Then again, maybe I'm just a pansy! hehe rolleyes.gif

You're right Julianna, I'll put Timber on there now! btw - he HAS tried to nail me already dry.gif I moved too fast for him (like John said) and he lunged at me ... but he missed haha!

I think he'll settle in nicely ... when I came home from church just a few minutes ago, I sneaked past the kitchen window to see what kind of noises were coming from my house ... all was quiet except for the quiet chitter chatter of the budgies (which is almost constant) ... they didnt start yelling till they saw me biggrin.gif

He did whistle at me from under the cover this morning when he heard me get up, but he's been really quiet for the most part. His call doesn't get to me nearly as much as Nala's! ohmy.gif

Hope my daughter picks up the cage alright today. I think Timber will like feeling 'home' in something he's familiar with.

Nala sure is curious about him ... and I realized seeing them up close that Timber is bigger than she is! I thought she was larger, so if I can take HER bite, his (although a surprise) will be tolerable too.

Right now Nala and Timber are in a screaming contest! ohmy.gif Both want my attention (which I'm not giving them right now as I'm trying to do dishes annd stuff) so they are vying for who has the loudest, most irritating screech!! laugh.gif laugh.gif
gidyup3
Hahaha! Yep, that sounds like Timber all right! Your daughter JUST left with the cage, though I realized that I forgot to give you Timber's bag of seed/parrot treat mix. Darn! Oh well, I'm sure he'll be really happy to see his house again! By the way, the ugly brown cloth in the cage is his cage cover. It came with the cage, and it fits very nicely, though, like I said, it's really ugly!

Glad to hear that he's settling in. Who knows? Maybe Nala and Timber will end up being best friends? (Yeah right!) wink.gif
