We are doing some remodeling and will be starting to repaint some of the interior walls soon.
Of course we are waiting until the fall so that we can open up the windows (we are in Texas)
so that we do not get so hot inside.
My question is has anyone painted WITH BIRDS INSIDE or do you put them outside
while painting and for how long after you are done painting?
My problem is that we will be painting for several days and I am not sure what IS and IS NOT safe
for the birds to handle?
Does anyone have any experience with this issue?

ive never done it with any animals inside
i have always put them all outside
i get a headache from it, so i imagine the birds would be really uncomfortable...if not ill
they have some paint i saw on a commercial that has no odor
or low odor or something

you should never paint in the same room or proximity of the bird, but if you stick them in a comfy room in the back it shold be fine.Latex based paints can be fairly safe. Usually your paint specialists can instruct you better on the best paint to use. Vinegar and water isn't gonna do much for toxicity, and actually the best odor nuetralizer would be active charcoal. You can pick some up from the pet store, I believe it's used in fish tank filters. My friend had painted their house with about 50 birds in it. They just didn't touch the bird room, which is conneted to with kitchen with no door. I believe they blocked it off with a sheet and opened the windows in the room. I've used a few different low odor paints in my years of house painting (aunt and uncle have 6 rent houses), and after a couple days you can have a 100% odorless room. So it might be best to paint one room about half a week in advance if not more then move the birds in there. If todays weather stays like this you could probably paint this week. One last thing Don't wait too long to paint your house, because I believe when the temp goes under 37 degrees paint has a hard ime drying. So open windows wouldn't be possible.

We put Peanut Butter in a separate room with the door shut, and did not use oil based paints, but the latex, as mentioned above.....she was fine!

Clyde turned up to join the family just as we started remodeling our bathroom and he was here for the whole long messy business, including painting. But our house is an open floor plan (practically one big room) and we have windows open and fans on because we don't have air conditioning, so there was plenty of ventilation and it didn't seem to bother him at all. I wouldn't have a bird in a room where there wasn't plenty of ventilation while painting, and if you can stash him far away from it, I would. We didn't have that option.
