this has more than likely been said already but here go's.

so many of you know so much about birds, yet we have no FAQ? IMO there should be sticky FAQ threads or a section of the forum with "how to" ex. train your quaker to talk or hand tame your quaker. This would put the info others have provided in an easy to reach area. would cut down on repeat posts as well wink.gif

maby ive just gone off the deep end and on a tangent, but i belive our forum could be a little more "easy on the eyes"

Shelly has a comprehensive content system which includes an FAQ .. Click Home at the top of the page .. To the right there are links to articles, FAQ etc ..

Is that what you are talking about?

somewhat, i meant inside the forum. like an entire section of the forum or some sticky threads

Keep in mind that the forum is just one part of this website. Shelly has created an excellent source of information on the main home page..

www.quakerparrots.com

So many people skip the main page and come right to the forum and in all honesty, they are missing out on some fantastic information. As for cutting down on repeated posts, I doubt that. Most people find it easier to ask a question, then do the research themselves. wink.gif

I think he wants a pinned section where people can put their FAQ's. I think we have that with every section we have. It pretty much covers everything.

However I do agree that maybe a Pinned Training tips section would be great. That way newbies can learn from people like me the self taught Avian Behavorist-the one who can get both dog and bird to do tricks using positive reinforcement. OK they can learn from those who know a heck of a lot more then me. Andie, his mom. I mean her mom.....Hahaha Betty, Gail..Sandi, and so many more.. Judi has to be one of the most knowlageble in alternitive medication.

Ok so I think two forums one for Alternitive medicines and having a disclaimer with it as you would have to.

anyway that is my two cents.

I just want to point out that not all people that visit this site are quaker parrot owners. Some are still at the research stage and don't know what a quaker parrot looks like and find this website and forum by searching parrot. Some people that browse the website never become members of the forum ...

Your suggestion hasn't been discounted .. members are providing their input based on the suggestion.

I was simply pointing you to a section that contains FAQ ... The FAQs on the website have been developed by Shelly and it allows comments by anyone .. If anyone disagrees with the FAQs then they can contact her as the owner. If anyone wants information added to the FAQs they can also submit them to Shelly ...

Assuming your suggestion is different then what is already in place then ...
  • Are you suggesting an FAQ that all members contribute to?
  • There are a lot of differing opinions as it relates to avian husbandry techniques ... from diet to behaviour .. do we include all rational opinions and put a disclaimer in the section or do we assign someone with experience to that section to be the editor/pubisher, negotiator and decision maker of all submission?
  • Do we want an FAQ section on it's own, members submit their FAQ and then it is approved once reviewed? Or no approval and only removed if it is against forum guidelines and way off ..?
Unlike a forum, a written FAQ usually presents the opinions and research of one or a few people. For instance an FAQ written by myself on behaviours would focus on an "applied analysis behaviour" and discount discipline .. yet presented by someone else could be totally different. A forum on the otherhand allows for opinions and discussions ..

Shelly is always open to suggestions and we try to implement anything that is possible .. just need to understand what is being suggested to see how we can put it in place and how it will be managed ...

Thoughts?

I'd be really interested in seeing how a better FAQ section could be done. As Dee pointed out, you have to take into consideration who would be answering the questions. Lots of various opinions on this forum wink.gif
Andie's Mom
That's for sure on the amount of different opinions... And as we've seen time and time again, what works well for one person may not work at all for another person and all is subject to interpretation anyway. I honestly think what we have is very good.
